Default newbie questions on 46 inch lcd

Hi
I have just ordered Samsung LE46M53BDX (£1442) online but before it is
delivered I was wondering do I need any special cables etc. I have sky tv
and a dvd recorder to be conected to the tv and will I be able to set it up
myself.
Thanks for any info from Eddie

I would think there will be 2 scart sockets & possibly s-vhs on this
particular make of TV, it's a HD set right? It will have HDMI.

DVD and Sky dodgy box can connect through scart (unless it's sky hd then
you'd be better connecting via HDMI).

In theory you might be better off using RGB pass through and connect the
SKY+ via the DVD Recorder using Scart. That way you will be able to dump
recordings to the DVD Recorder using RGB.

That's how I had mine set up with my old CRT, but I did have a problem once
I changed to LCD. You may find the LCD set is very transparent to MPEG
anomalies, and needs differing amounts of filtering (the TV should have
filter settings) for each source. In that case you need to connect each
source separately and not use pass through. I ended up connecting my DVD
recorder to the TV twice, once using HDMI and optimised for retail DVD's,
and the other via component with the filter on high settings to filter out
the crap from Freeview and home DVD recordings. The SKY+ is connect via RGB
scart to the TV, and it's s-video goes to the DVD recorder.

No offence, but wouldn't it have been wiser to check these things before
spending £1500 on a new TV?

What sort of power consumption might one of these behemoths have?
And why is this not published in the ads? (AFAICT)

According to the product specs on their website at
http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/t...Specifications
the consumption is 275W in On Mode and 3W on standby.

Youch! Thanks.
I am not surprised the typical ad for these huge televisions leave this
sort of info out, when I believe we should have the outfo in.
However, I am mindful that the thing would warm the room a bit and do
something slightly useful.
