Default Mit. DLP vs. Pana. Plasma

Hi,

Just wondering if there are any thoughts on Mitsubishi DLP 65 inch
versus a 50 inch plasma Panasonic.

priorities:
1. Movies (low light-DVR or whatever-DVD)
2. Normal tv (moderate light)
3. video game (PS3 or whatever)

Thanks

I would go with the DLP due to better picture. The best picture you can
get is 1080P and i dont think the plasma can get it, only 1080i. Plus
plasma they say dont last as long, maybe 5-10 years. With the DLP you
are getting a 65" also.

Gaming sucks on DLP tv's... Low refresh rate, wears out the light
source, and you get more of the screen door effect.... Also you have to
replace the light source every 2-5 years depending on viewing
habbits(about 300 usd not including labour)... Also the user interface
on the mitsubishi is crap... The panasonic has a higher contrast ratio,
colour saturation, and colour accuracy, and higher response to
upscaling... I work at a Best Buy Magnolia home theater retailer and we
have the 50 inch panasonic /720p/1080i plasma next to the Sony 1080p
SXRD LCD projo and EVERY customer says the plasma looks better... And
they are both displaying off a Blueray player with HDMI cables....
Image resolution comparisons doesn't really matter when your talking
about display types as different as DLP and Plasma...

Don't forget the reflectivity of the plasma glass screen if you have windows
in the room.

Prices continue to fall on direct view flat panels while picture quality and
reliability improves. The agruments for rear projector mircro displays that
were compelling a few years ago are no longer valid. I wouldn't consider a
rear projector today. There are just too many things that can and probably
will break sometime down the road. The latest issue of Consumer Reports
advises readers not to purchase an extended warranty on their HDTV purchase
except for rear projector micro displays. For rear projector micro displays
they advise to purchase the extra warranty protection because you will
probably need it. Their readers report failure rates 3 time greater with
that technology than with direct view technology.
