Could someone with a Panasonic DMREZ25 Freeview DVD recorder (or any of this
current crop of Panasonic Diga DVD recorders or DVD recorders/HDD/VCR combi units) please recommend a particular brand of DVD-RAM media that they have had particularly good success with? Although this line from Panasonic is renowned for its excellent support of multi-format discs, I've found there's usually a specific brand of disc that stands out for reliability with any particular machine. I'm waiting on delivery of my new DMREZ25 and wish to pre-stock up with all the necessities...like HDMI cable and disc media. Seeing as though this model only supports 'chase playback' with DVD-RAM media, I want to get a few of those in and be ready. I'm only used to my PC as far as DVD recordable media goes, and I stick with Verbatim in that case.....but with this being my first 'under the telly' recorder, and possibly a whole different ball game as regards disc media, I could use the advice. Many thanks. |

Many thanks. I think this is the cheapest I have seen yet, I just bought my first pack as usually I think they're too expensive. http://svp.co.uk/products-list.php?bid=0&cid=80 look for the Panasonic (2-3x) Single Sided 4.7GB DVD-RAM for £6.69 for a pack of 5. They're not in cartridges though, but actually cheaper than other brands on the page. As you have to pay postage you'll probably be better off buying a fair lump. I also can't recall if you have to sign up to the company before buying but they're very good and have a wide range of stuff at good prices and next day delivery. I use them a lot. -- Paul (Need a lift she said much obliged) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Actually, I didn't know they made disc media themselves. Well I was a bit worried about being limited to DVD-RAM for chasing playback today, so I changed my order this morning for the DMR-EX75 unit instead - it has a 160GB HDD and will allow me this luxury more readily. But I still intend to use DVD-RAM too, so it is good to know. On a side note, I wonder if you know if all DVD recorders that have the chase playback feature limit this function to DVD-RAM only, or do some utilize this feature on, say, DVD+RW or DVD-RW? Thanks. |

Panasonic also make 5x discs but try finding them anywhere, even their own webshop doesn't have them! |

On a side note, I wonder if you know if all DVD recorders that have the chase playback feature limit this function to DVD-RAM only, or do some utilize this feature on, say, DVD+RW or DVD-RW? Thanks. Sometimes Currys have offers on the 10 packs of Panasonics for about £17 instead of £20. As far as I know DVD-RAM is the only media that allows simultaneous read/writes which is needed for chasing playback. Obviously HD's allow it as well. If you intend to copy from the HD to DVD make sure that the High Speed mode is enabled before you make the original copy to the HD otherwise it copies in real time. I've used hundreds of Panasonic DVD-RAM disks over the years, mostly for computer backups and never had a single problem, which is more than can be said for all other media I've used. The Double Sided Caddy RAMs are excellent for computer and recorder, just like large floppies. FR Mode is a very good feature on Panasonics. They reduce the bit rate first and only reduce the resolution when this isn't practicable. Sean B |
