Hi,
I have a HD LCD TV, and the picture from the standard sky+ box (scart to scart) is pretty awful. If I upgrade to a skyHD box, do the standard definition channels look any better? I realise they are still SD, but does the output from the HD box (combined with the HD cable) give the TV a better signal? Is there any way of improving the picture from my SD box for now? I have it set up to output 14:9 and the TV to display a small 14:9 picture just to get some sharpness into the picture. On-screen graphics and the Sky menu are very sharp, but programmes are grainy, blurred and out of focus on widescreen. Thanks for any help. |

I have a Panasonic 42in HD plasma and I am very pleased with the picture quality of SD satellite, even via my SD Tivo. Maybe your TV isn't very good, or maybe you have got the settings wrong. Try turning off all video noise reduction functions for a start. Maybe you are sitting too close. Assuming that your SD digibox is set to output RGB then you will not improve its output. A Sky HD box will offer component and HDMI outputs, and will do some upscaling, and your TV may like this better. Is there any way of improving the picture from my SD box for now? I have it set up to output 14:9 and the TV to display a small 14:9 picture You mean 16:9. The ONLY correct settings are 16:9 for the digibox and 4:3 for the TV, which should then switch to 16:9 as controlled by pin8 of the scart. All other settings are wrong. just to get some sharpness into the picture. On-screen graphics and the Sky menu are very sharp, but programmes are grainy, blurred and out of focus on widescreen. I don't see how this can be, unless it has to do with MPEG noise reduction. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Thanks for any help. sounds about right to me. there isnt a single HD ready TV that does SD anywhere *near* as good as a half decent CRT. HD is a different ball game all together, but even on SKY HD it is soooo painfully obvious that sky sports 2 HD is showing nothing but SD content...be nice if they even **attempted** to upscale it! -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
