Default TUTV Anytime just a channel-holder?

I've just looked at the TUTV Anytime offering. Do you know of anybody
that got a subscription? It can't be a serious offering, surely? It
looks to me as though they've worked out the absolute-minimum cost
solution for maintaining the use of the bandwidth without it being
blatantly obvious to all that they've given up. I guess that they intend
to make their money from auctioning their windfall of what has become
high-price channel space that they tied-up with a long term agreement.
I'd also guess that they can't just transmit test-cards because of some
contract or licensing condition.

So... it's £180 for a box... £30 for a viewing card.... £10 a month?
Hmm, so *only* £320 for the first year! Bargain. Not.

Bet it doesn't use mpeg4 either. If it did the box could presumably
record several mpeg4 programmes simultaneously overnight (or
an HD programme), might actually be enough content to be
worth the subscription.

Surely they'll have to give the box away (almost) free to get any
subscribers at all?

The problem is Top up T.Vis not going to have channels as such, what
they will do is select programmes from certain channels that they think
people want and send them to your box. So what happens if you are
watching a series and Top up don't want to send the rest of it?

I know I don;t use Sky anymore, but at least with Sky you have got the
channels and can watch what you like and the lowest cost is only £5 more
than Top up and you get a free box and dish. I also know that some
people can't have a dish, but people who can then Sky is the best way to
go. I never thought I would ever say that.

I think Top up will go belly up at some point, I only know a couple of
people that got Top up and they are certainly not changing over to Top
up anytime, they say they will go for Sky instead. Of cause you don't
get a sky+ box for that price, but with more and more DVd recorders on
the market at a decent price, then it is a second best.
