Hello,
Just got a Panny TH 42PD60U (EDTV), I tried many different settings for the picture, does anybody have some ideas for the settings?? It doesn't look bad but I know it could be better, right now I've tried the settings found at PlasmaTV but they were for the TH 42PX60U (HD model), anybody have the settings this unit? Thanks |

Thanks Did you try the mode "Cinema"?? I'm quite happy with it (that's the exact same model I have) for most of the material I watch (including SD tv sources, HD tv sources, DVDs of movies, of TV series, cartoons, and 3D Computer-Generated cartoons --- a-la "Nemo", "Hoodwinked", etc.) What are you unhappy about? .... I've got an earlier generation of the same product so I don't know if the situation is the same in your sets, but I find that I need a different setting based on input. For OTA TV, the "Auto dimming" setting and tweek it slightly. I turn the "sharpening" down. Picture and brightness go up a little and I change color temp to "cool". OTA will always show some variation, especially in the digital SD broadcasts, so I set it for HD and then change ever so slightly to improve SD. By comparison, those setting make the HDMI input (fed by my Sony DVR) way too dark, so I use Standard as the starting point and brighten it considerably. Of course, that setting is way too bright for the Component inputs (DVD player or Sony DVR). And my OTA setting is too dark. So, I start with Cinema, and tweek that just a little for the component inputs. Since the TV is kind enough to remember which preset to use for each input (including the OTA tuner), the setup only needs to be done once for each type of input. I believe my Panasonic has 4 presets, so if I needed another setting for the S-Video/Composite inputs, I could start with Vivid, if necessary. (Of course I'd turn it waaaaay down, since Vivid is too cartoonish for my tastes.) Anyway, after the setup, all my sources look beautiful, and I bet with proper setup, you will love your Panasonic's picture as well. In summary: 1. Different source connections may require different settings. 2. The inputs remember which preset to use. 3. The presets are just suggestions; you can modify them to your heart's content.
