"me" wrote in message ... Hi.. quick question.. i have had a visit from tv licencing today. i refused him entry to my property but said they would apply for a warrent to enter the property of course i am not using recieving equipment but refuse to allow these meatheads access... anyone know if they generaly bother geting warrents or is it normally just a threat ???? thnx The BBC TVL Gestapo don't bother with warrants. They are not law enforcement officers and have no legal powers to interview, detain, or enter premises. You are perfectly within your rights to tell them to "**** off" and desist trespassing on your land. |

Most people are co-operative when presented with something reasonable with which to co-operate. If someone with no legal right to do so tried to bully their way into my home on the pretext that they thought I might be doing something wrong, I might not feel inclined to help them, and if it happened several times, it might weaken my natural inclination to be polite. I think they do have right of entry - it is not only law enforcement officers who have this - gas and electricity officials do too. |

Quite agree, Having been pursued and sent what can only be described as
threatening letters just because my home can be addressed in two different ways I agree that TV Licencing call you a liar, cheat and law breaker with no evidence save that of statistics. I know of no other organisation who use these tatics except for the lady on the front page of her local paper who has had her car number plate cloned by a serial speeder and parking violator. Time for the little man to stand up for themself - despite ending up with a heavy beating heart when doing so. -- Rob. |

On their own web site it actually states that "the occupier is under no legal obligation to allow entry" The private company who check for TV receiving equipment has no more right than you local butcher has to enter you property (without a warrant). The gas and electricity companies also threaten a warrant when wanting to read a meter. It should be noted that the threat about a warrant is not about reading the meter but about performing a safety check. I believe it would be illegal for the employee from the third party meter reading company to perform a safety check unless the was full Corgi registered (or equivalent for the electrical industry). -- Alan news2006 {at} amac {dot} f2s {dot} com |

The BBC TVL do not. |

If they are breaking the law, should they be allowed to get away with it?
