Hi all.
I am considering buying Panasonic's TH-42PX60U, but I just read in one of reviews on Amazon that it can't play PAL DVDs. Can this be true? I thought this would depend on the DVD player, not on the TV... TIA for any help. Regards, Arkadiy |

Hope this helps |

TH-42PX60U is not HDTV. Its native resolution, 1024x768, does
not comply with current high definition standard. Although it supports HD 720p and 1080i signal. Charlie "Arkadiy" wrote in message oups.com... Hi all. Could you clarify, please, what exactly would be the requirements to say that a given unit "is HDTV", or "complies with the current HD standard"? I'm curions --- I'm not trying to be dense, or sarcastic, etc.; I was under the impression that that Panasonic unit is HD, among other things, because it has 768 lines, and because it supports both 720p and 1080i input signals. (most TV sets I've seen that are labeled as HD are 1366 x 768 at best --- same amount of lines; if those are HD, why wouldn't this Panasonic be?) Carlos -- |

So, 1024 horizontal lines does not meet the spec, whereas 1366 x 768 does. I don't tghink there is a plasma set smaller than 50 inches that meets spec, except for a very expensive Pioneer. Getting back to the original question, I have a JVC dvd / Aquos TV combination that plays PAL DVDs; Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing whether the vidoe out of the JVC is 50 or 60 Hz. Tam Tam |

They are a great match and I've enjoyed a few PAL DVDs without issue. -mark |
