What TV do you have? I just got a Mitsubishi 57731 DLP and I haer a
similiar noise, as well as other people who complained on the AVS forum.

Sharp 56DR650. I'm on my third light engine in less than a year. Sharp
is giving up and buying it back from me. I'm waiting for their call to
tell me how much.

This one hasn't become as loud yet as the last one they replaced.

Our Samsung made a few noises like that about a year and a half ago
(almost 3 yrs old). I was expecting the color wheel to croak but it's
2000 hrs run time later, hasn't made any noises in over a year and is
running right now. But, I usually have pretty good luck with machines.

If you get ambitious to change the color wheel yourself and save a few
bucks, here's an excellent DIY procedure with pictures included .
