Thanks, Stu P.S. you can respond to me individually if you wish. I recommend shopping carefully, educating yourself about the various technologies, and learning what the local service options are. I prefer to stick with the traditional TV makers when posiible for service support, but it depends on the product. I tend to prefer brands that have support from the most experienced and reputable local servicers, since that is who will be actually donig any service. We sell mostly Mitubishi and Sony, but at times sell lots of other products, depending on the models, price, performance, value, etc. I personally also like Hitachi and LG products, along with many others, again, depending on the specifics of the product and market. I tend to be very leary of the vendors that do not provide parts nor service support through independent servicers. We have been burned by them repeatedly, not allowing us to provide the kind of service support to our clients that we and they expect. The brands that I specifically avoid are Infocus, BenQ, Optoma, Viewsonic, Dell, Gateway, RCA (TCE), Philips, Apex, Akai, Sharp host of others. Even those can be OK, however, if you understand the caveats up front. For instance, it might make sense to buy an inexpensive projector that can be easily shipped for service (and that will be necessary for most of ds listed) if it does what you need it to do and understand that local service is not a likely option. Panasonic is a good brand that has been moving in the wrong direction in terms of support, so they are close to my s-list. Toshiba has some good products but problems in recent years with quirks in design and thin parts inventories have them tentatively there as well. If you want my experience or opinion on a specific product, post the model. I'll check it out on the servicer forums and lists and see what the people serbicing them think. I'll give you my opinion and experience if I have any. Leonard, what is your opinion of the Mitsubishi 57" DLP model WD57831? I believe this is the Diamond Series model without a DVR. Thanks Mike O. None of the new Mits sets have DVR, thank goodness. The 831 IMO is a fine set, but the 732 is the better value. I have been able to align the sets to nearly as good as one could get for gray scale and color precision. My only complaint is that they have gamma that is slightly high for their application and would like to find a way to lower it a bit. Overall, they are great sets. "saxmaniac" wrote in message news:v%[email protected] How about these: Sony SXRD Fine sets. The value point is the 2000 series, IMO. Slightly softer than the Mits but a bit more bulletproof with respect to handling over processed or poorly processed video. I have yet to see the much talked about green glob nor had a single client complain of it. Sharp Aquos LCD flat panel Good looking sets but the new Sonys and Samsungs are better, IMO. Sharp sucks in terms of service support. We dropped them for this and mediocre performance and value in many products. Runco uses their panels with much better electronics, but not a value product IMO. Sony XBR series LCD flat panel Hard to beat. Not long ago you could not have given me LCD FPDs. They have come a long way recently. Pioneer Elite 50" plasmas Fine sets. The Elite sets are very tweakable and perform very well. We don't sell them, so I can't say mcuh about the recent service on them. I never liked dealing with Pioneer service when I was a dealer for them, but that has been a while. Personally, in a PDP I'd get a Panasonic, even though they are providing worse support than ever. Regardless, I think they are the best values in PDPs right now. If you really want a fine system, pair one with a good VP and you have a better combo than a Fujitsu at a similar price. I'd seriously consider that Sony LCD panel right now if I didn't need the bigger size. Dave Clary/Corpus Christi, Tx Home: http://davidclary.com I recall trying to buy parts for a 34" CRT set a while back and they only sold parts in blocks of several boards. This makes any repair that you can't complete with generic parts very expensive. Getting support to service at the component level was impossible. I joke that dealing with most of the vendors is like dealing with the government, but Sharp is like dealing with the IRS. I droped our affiliation with them a couple of years ago. From what I hear from other servicers, your servicer's experience is typical. Keep in context that most vendors are like this. The notable exceptions are Mitsubishi, Sony, Hitachi, and a handful of others.
