Default Sky Sports on Freeview ?

Hello

I'm aware that there was some discussion earlier in the year, about Sky
Sports possibly being made available through Top Up TV, to Freeview.

I really don't want to have to subscribe to Sky, as all I want are the
sport channels.....does anyone know if this is going to happen? If so,
when?

I've had a look at the Freeview site, but there is nothing regarding
this, there.

Cheers,
Keith.

TitsUp TV is nothing to do with Freeview.

TitsUp TV is nothing to do with Freeview.

So when I cycle through the encrypted channels on Freeview, and see
stuff referring to Top Up TV, in what way is this 'nothing to do with
Freeview'?

Even if they are separate companies using the same method of
transmission, they do have *something* to do with each other.

So, back to the question: is Freeview ever going to offer Sky Sports?
If so, when?

Andrew was pedantic but correct. Freeview is a trademark (of the Beeb I
think) and covers specific channels. DTT (digital terrestrial TV) is the
transmission mechanism used by both Freeview and TUTV channels.

You might be better off finding TUTV on the web and asking them specifically
but be warned that their portfolio of channels changes every now and then so
what they say today, might not be what happens tomorrow.

You are cycling through channels available via DTT. You are seeing
Freeview channels and TitsUp channels. Like I said, they are nothing
to do with each other.

Even if they are separate companies using the same method of
transmission, they do have *something* to do with each other.

In the same way Channel 5 are broadcast on the same system as BBC.
Would you check the Five website to find out about Have I got News For
You?

So, back to the question: is Freeview ever going to offer Sky Sports?
If so, when?

Never would be my guess. Maybe via TitsUp.

Hi Keith,
As you can see Andrew is being deliberately unhelpful and pedantic in
order to hinder and perhaps discourage anyone from finding out about
Top-Up TV (or Tits Up as some people not-so-hilariously insist on
calling it, don't understand why - they've been calling it that for
over two years now and still they don't seem to have gone "Tits Up").

Anyway - I haven't heard any more about the Sky Sports stuff, seems
that your best bet for sport on DTT is to keep an eye on this news
about a version of the Setanta channel due to appear next year:

This is a contradiction! If it is on TUTV, then, by definition, it is not
on Freeview! Freeview is not the same as DTT (Digital Terrestrial TV).

If Sky is able to make more money by selling on this channel through
subscriptions to TUTV, then it might do so. But do I think that Sky will?
No! DTT has become too big a threat to help if any more.

I really don't want to have to subscribe to Sky, as all I want are the
sport channels

Then you have problem with the best sports action on Sky D.

You have confused Freeview and DTT!

TUTV and Freeview both broadcast on DTT, but that does not make TUTV and
Freeview the same thing.

You might as well state that when you surf channels you see BBC and
Eurosport therefore they are both the same or connected thing.

Even if they are separate companies using the same method of
transmission, they do have *something* to do with each other.

'Something', yes, but you are unaware what: DTT.

So, back to the question: is Freeview ever going to offer Sky Sports?

Only if Sky want to commit commercial suicide.

If so, when?

Not in the near future, that is for certain.

Hi Keith,
As you can see Andrew is being deliberately unhelpful

I disagree! Andrew was putting Keith straight and informing him of a very
basic fact on DTT life in the UK. It is a shame that when somebody tries to
help along a 'newbie' your cutting remarks are felt necessary by you.

and pedantic

....and correct!
