Default Toshiba Cable Card

Just bought a Toshiba 50hn66DLP a week ago. Very good HD. Prob is i had
cable guy come put in a cablecard and he was here 5 hrs.Tryed 2 cards Tv
would only recive some stations and then would lock up. He hooked up a
HD box instead. not very happy with pic I get better pic with only
hooking up cable and letting tv use its own tunner.
Any buddy know fix or have same problem. He is going to try to get
updated cards and try them.
TIA

Par for the course. The longest any CableCard worked here was 3 months. Gave
up when a new card quit after a month. According to the New York Times, only
3% of cable card capability TVs are actually using them. When I connect a
DVR (SA8300HD) to the TV via either HDMI or component video, I can't tell
any difference from these and using the TV tuner.

Manufacturers are cutting way back on the number of models that support
cable card.

Tam,

You keep posting your bad CableCard experience, but, it is NOT "par for
the course"!

I have had a CableCard working flawlessly for 14 months. I suspect my
experience is more "par for the course" than yours. But I don't tout
that CableCards actually do work everytime somebody has a bad experience.

How do you explain the 3% usage? Does your TVGuide work? Mine never did, but
I don't think it was meant to with all digital cable.

Default Toshiba Cable Card

I have a Panasonic TV with a Motorola CableCard from Charter Cable.
Everything works great including the TV guide.

CableCard and TVGOS are totally unrelated to each other. But my TVGOS
worked very well until about 3 weeks ago, when the local over-the-air
station apparently stopped broadcasting the data. I would have liked a
more intelligent user interface though.

Is the 3% usage figure correct? Hard to say. What fraction of people
use the HDMI outputs on a cable box? What fraction of people use VOD
features on a cable box? What fraction of people use the Phono input on
a Receiver/Amp? What fraction of people use the AM features on a
Receiver/Amp? Does it matter? No. They are there, they work, use them
if you wish. The same applies to CableCards.

That's the thing. Cable here does not use the analog TVGOS. All the
CableCards here were Scientific Atlanta, the two that worked, and the four
that did not. A lot of it has to do with the installer not knowing what he
is doing, and the cable company wishing they would just go away.

Someone told me to check the firmware. Is it up to date? Are the cards up to
date?

I don't care about the Tvguide stuff. I know I won"t beable to get the on
demand stuff or the cable guide stuff that you get when you have the STB.

The cable guy was able to get all the basaic channels but when it was trying
to recive the HD channels it would not work right. TV would lock up.

You didn't read what I wrote. I received TVGOS OVER THE AIR. not over
cable. The OVER THE AIR station apparently dropped stopped broadcasting
the data. Has nothing to do with cable or CableCard.
