Default HD local channels

I just bought the new Dish Reciver and I love all the new HD channels
but I was wondering why you can't see any of the Local channels in HIGH
DEFINITION. Does anyone know when it will be availible and if i will
need to buy a new reciver.

In Los Angeles I get local ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox in HD via DirecTV

You are receiving the terrestial broadcasts through a OTA tuner built into
Directv box. The signal is not going through a satellite. There is an
antenna connection as well as a satelite connection Disconnect the satelite
and you will still receive the locals.

OK - then if THAT'S the case, why am I not receiving any other locals in
HD if - as YOU claim I have an OTA antenna built into the DTV box? I do
not have an OTA HD antenna on the roof - just a 5 LNB dish and both coax
drops go into the DirectTV HD-DVR, but they do NOT attach to the
"antenna" connection on said box.

DirecTV and Dish Network have local HD via satellite in many areas. Not
all but the number is increasing rapidly. You can check on their
website to see if your DMA is included.

It all depends on where you live. Dish has many locals already and are
expanding all the time. You don't say where you live and what tuner
you have so it's impossible to say if/when you'll have them via the
satellite. Also, depending on where you are, there's always the
possibility of getting the local channels via OTA using an antenna
attached to your Dish tuner.
