I absolutely agree! Magazine reviews, in general, are pure fantasy and an
insult to the intelligence.

I suspect that many of them are also an unnoficial form of
advertising. Have you ever seen one that says anything truly damning
about something that is advertised in the same magazine?

I'm slightly puzzled by what relevance their sales figures have to the
quality of their reviews.

People might be interested in the following which has just been put onto
the web by one of the 'regulars' on uk.rec.audio.

Cheers, I enjoyed that. And thanks to to Laurence for giving up a day to
assist in illuminating the experts' mental incapacities.

This magazine tests computers, monitors, graphic cards, hard disk drives,
and many other computer related products. Surely, if its reviews were bad
(we're not talking about _subjective_ assessment of sound quality, for
example), then it would soon lose its popularity.

I expect audio comparisons are like wine tasting.
All red wine "tastes the same" according to my wife!
Audiophiles probably have a more sensitive set of natural equipment
compared to the average listener and are therefore better able to detect
any actual differences.

And yet these preternatural abilities mysteriously vanish as soon as they
are denied knowledge of which equipment they are listening to. Most
peculiar.
