Hello
Here is the problem: When I select a non HD channel, the picture keeps changing from Full to Zoom etc. on it's own. I have to go into Wega gate to reset the picture size. This does not happen with the HD channels, only with the non HD channels. I have a motorola HD cable box. It's set to 720P 480I because the closed captioned subtitles are better. This is the only setting that is causing this problem. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks My in-laws have the KDFE42A10, and I remember there was a setting in the menu that automatically adjusts a 480 signal to whatever you tell it ie zoom, full zoom, etc. So it could be set to zoom right now. You can turn it off. I'm not familiar with the Motorola STB, but if you have it set to 720P & 480i, you probably have the STB set on "pass-through" as opposed to "fixed". Pass through outputs the signal unchanged and lets the TV do the conversion. 720in=720 out and 480 in=480 out. If you have the STB on "fixed" it will always take the incoming signal ( regardless if its 720 or 480) and output the signal always to 1080i. For example, if you have the STB set on fixed, and you tune to an SD channel, the STB will output it to the TV as a 1080 signal. The TV will still sense a 1080 signal so it will never go to zoom or full zoom. You will probably get bars on the sides. HD channels are normal. However if you have it set on pass-through, and you tune to an SD channel ( which is 480) the TV will sense this and will zoom or stretch (depending what you set it for in Wega gate). HD channels are still normal. |

My DVR is Scientific Atlanta. When I use HDMI instead of component, the Sharp TV will change the view mode from SmartStretch to normal when switching from an SD station to an HD station. You want that, but it does not restore the previous view mode when switching from HD back to SD.That is why I am not using HDMI. The Sharp SmartStretch looks better than the SA view modes. Tam |

I have it set to 480i becuase the closed captions are better. However, when
I change the channel from HD to a non HD channel, the picture setting keeps changing on it's own. It does not know what to do. It goes from zoom to full, back to zoom etc. I have to manually reset the picture setting. I have even turned the setting to off. Didn't work. I have arranged for a Sony technician to look at it this week. Thanks "Mikepier" wrote in message ups.com... Yes 480 P works fine. But the closed captions are poor.

I know I'm late to the party, but it sounds like your cable box may be
outputting a "480i standard widescreen" signal instead of plain old "480i". 480i signals can be embedded with a tag that tells the television whether the image is standard widescreen (in which case the TV will automatically Zoom) or anamorphic widescreen (automatically enters Full mode) or nothing at all (in which case it switches to your desired zoom mode as a previous poster indicated). Sony is one of those brands that listens to those tags... does your cable box have several 480i modes? - Dan "Tam/WB2TT" wrote in message ... Rosemary Basha wrote: interesting. I'll check it out. I've got the same problem but haven't found a solution yet. (Haven't talked to Sony or Comcast yet). I'd love to hear of a fix if you find it. |
