My opinion only but:
HD is not as important a feature to me as time and place shifting are. |

wrote in message ... My opinion only but: HD is not as important a feature to me as time and place shifting are. I share your opinion 100%, but tread it carefully in here. You'll see it. Recommendations to whatever holds the most hype, just because it exists. Practicality holds little virtue. At least it stops short of telling people to run down to their local Worst Buy and pick up $100 HDMI Mobster Cables. My beef? I want all components (HDTV's, HD/BlueRay/DVD-RW, STB's, etc) to simply support component in and out connections. I want to be in control. I want to be able to time shift; record what I want - when I want. The powers-that-be think differently though. They want digital control (HDMI/DVI) all the way to your TV. Its an easy sell, just get the mantra "Digital is better!" flowing. They aren't concerned about you seeing the blades of grass clearly during the Superbowl. They want control. We are a minority in a sea chanting the mantra, full of fish all too eager to be taken to the slaughter. Eliminate the weak part of link (analog) and you can now do all sorts of dirty tricks to consumer. One day, you will come home to watch that program that you set your DVR to record -- only to find that it didn't record, but five hours of commercials did. Directed commercials. Pushed commercials, based on your viewing habits and information shared from your credit card company of what you purchased. It'll be as common as popups on the web today. That new movie that you just bought on disc, it'll have only a 'license' to only allow you view it several times. Want to watch it again, you have to pay. And, this will be accepted. ....and these are just the "nice things". Its going to happen. If money can be made, it WILL happen. Your convienence, --and privacy--, don't mean a damn thing. Yes, I'm extremely cynical, but mark my words on this... |

Yes they are as long as I can time and place shift the programming.... and skip the commercials...and as long as the def is good enough to "see".....that's all I really care abt SD digital would probably suit me just fine. |

Since you are making the statement and it applies to you alone, what sort or response do you expect? Just others to play devils advocate seriously I'm not being smart ass or anything... just open for discussion Just someone to convince me what the hoopla is abt HD. I know it looks good.... but in my mind time/place shifting are more important than def Time/place shifting give me ... personally speaking.... more "utility" |
