Default EDTV Worth It?

Due to the cost and availability of getting a digital signal I'm thinking of
getting a edtv. More specific the Panasonic TH42PD60U. It would be like
watching a dvd all the time. Anyone with experience with a EDTV??

Thanks
Bob

What sources do you plan on using with it?

I have an HDTV and an EDTV. Care to guess which I use mainly for SD, DVD,
and even game consoles?

You got it -- the EDTV.

Its the better match for non-HD.

It maybe a better match, but it is a waste of money. SD and DVD will be out
after a while.

480i/p sources aren't going anywhere, anytime soon.

Your "after a while" will be measured in decades.

My sources would be digital cable with very few Hd channels and a DVD. Some
here say its a waste of money but with my sources a HDTV would be a waste of
money for me.

Depending on screen size and type of display, there isn't that much difference in price. I would go with the HD display.

A similar post like the one I'm about to write also gets posted once
every 5 months or so.
Why ask an EDTV question in an HDTV Usenet group? People don't click
to alt.tv.tech.hdtv to chew the fat about the wonders of 65 year old
NTSC 480i
television technology? The wonders of NTSC television standards might
have been A Brave New World in 1947, but the time when NTSC 480i looked
magic and lifelike on 1940-era
5 to 13 inch B&W picture tubes is long a faded memory.

In other words, don't be such a cheapo ! For God sakes, pay the extra
$150 and buy an HDTV television. EDTV and 480i may not be dead, but the
vultures are certainly circling.
