I have an old Sony Trinitron Model: KV-X2152U (S/N:4008372) 21" TV. Recently I purchased a Sony VTX-D800U Digital Receiver so I could receive Freeview channels. Unfortunately there is a problem with the television picture when I am watching the Freeview channels. Basically, the picture keeps breaking up. Sometimes it seems to just drop a few random patches, other times the whole picture and the sound breaks up. Occasionally the entire screen goes black and only the station ID banner across the top of the screen will appear. The random picture dropout seems to occur more frequently in areas of the picture where there is image movement, rather than areas of unchanging background image. The dropout is in the form of random patches made up of quite large, square pixels. snip I have wasted hours trying to solve this problem and now I have finally nailed it. The picture break-up was caused by a nearby cordless telephone & base station (Siemens/BT unit). Now I have relocated the cordless phone some distance away, the picture is perfect. -- Mike -Please remove 'safetycatch' from e-mail address before firing off your reply- |

Perhaps the Sony trinitron doesn't conform by being vulnerable to interference at the approved operating frequencies. 'Not me mate it's 'im'. I can hear the chorus already. Roger R |

This is also the cause of many wireless ADSL router problems too. Often cured by moving the devices apart and/or changing the channel the wireless router uses. -- Steve Parry K100RS SE & F650 and a 520i SE Touring for comfort |

cured by moving the devices apart and/or changing the channel the wireless router uses. Sorry for being pedantic, but this may affect all wireless routers, not just those using ADSL, unless you're saying that interference is passed down the phone wire from the phone base station to the router. or perhaps its just a badly made scart lead. No, the scart lead wasn't the problem. One of the first things I tried was a replacement scart lead. In fact, I tried three, including one costing very silly money with metal shells, 24K gold-plated contacts, advanced multiple shielding, 99.9997% OCC copper conductors, and integral EMI suppressors. The most noticeable outcome was the depletion of my bank account balance ;-) -- Mike -Please remove 'safetycatch' from e-mail address before firing off your reply- |

Paul DS. sigh no I'm saying that the wireless signal is interferred with by the signal used by the handsfree phones ... and yes you're correct it is all wireless routers ... I was just assuming that MOST people used wireless routers with adsl built in at home. -- Steve Parry K100RS SE & F650 and a 520i SE Touring for comfort |
