Default HELP!

Hi,
I have a Tivo which is at least 4 years old.. 30 G harddrive, which is
paid in full for life.

Latley I have been having what I call digital moments. The recorded
shows sometimes have pixel breakups with a pause in the action. It gets
severe somtimes making recorded shows unwatchable.

What is going on? Any ideas? Can I reset or redo the hard drive?

Hate to think my lifetime deal is heading for the toilet!

Thanks

Probable failing hard disk.

Replacing the hard drive does NOT mess up your lifetime subscription.
Your serial number is in a chip on the motherboard, not the hard drive.

There are a number of ways to replace the drive yourself (you do need
an OS image, which you can get off your existing drive if it hasn't
failed completely yet) with the Hinsdale instructions (worked great
for me), or buy a drive pre-loaded with an image from Weaknees.
When you do, get a bigger drive.

As I understand lifetime -- you can have the unit repaired ( replaced? ) and
keep the lifetime service.

To me it sounds like the HD is going bad -- remember, the HD is working ALL THE
TIME -- so it's bound to wear out. 4 years is a long time. weaknees has a HD
upgrade kit for the do-it-yourselfer -- you can upgrade the HD to a larger size
too.

---Standalone TiVO box or Directv TiVO? Does it happen when watching live
TV?
Any other quirks? Just making sure that you aren't having a signal issues
before you launch into bad TiVO hard drive mode and all.... ;-)

We were having similar issues with our Panasonic E80 and I was going to try
to replace the HD, then I noticed the same thing when I recorded to
VCR.....on the rare occasion we watch live TV....the same thing. I
mentioned it to a do-worker and he said it was the cable provider, not my
equipment.
