Default Tivo Series 3 and existing setup

I just ordered a Tivo Servies 3 Box throught the VIP special they are
offering.

WIll my Denon AVR 3803 receiver be compatable with this HD signal? I
know I will have to get a new cable box from Comcast, I assume I will
need a new TV as I now have a Panasonic Plasma "Progressive" flatscreen
and a "Progressive" CD/DVD.

Any suggestion on where to go to review all this stuff? I know nothing
about HD compatability, but the Tivo3 box is dragging me into the HD
world I guess.

thanks,
rich

If you run the video via the Component signals (not HDMI or DVI) then you
can route it through the AVR3803. HDMI switching wasn't introduced until
the 3806.

I did the same thing.

You don't need a cable box what you need are cable cards that plug
into the back of the tivo, two to be exact. If you plan on using a
pure digital signal you will need a new receiver. the component
connections should work fine though. and the audio should work fine
also. I bypassed my receiver and went straight to the TV via HDMI-DVI
converter cable since my receiver doesn't switch digital video
sources. then ran a optical cable for the audio to the receiver. the
tivo will downgrade the output to what ever your tv can handle
including 480p. but that kind defeats having a high def tivo, unless
you just want to get the lifetime while you can

As noted, your receiver can handle digital audio switching, but not
digital video. However you won't lose much quality if you use component
connections and use the receiver to switch that instead. Or you can run
your video directly to the TV and just use your receiver for audio
switching.

No you won't. You will need 1 or 2 cablecards (probably 2) from Comcast
instead. The S3 tunes internally using cablecards for descrambling.

"Progressive" is not descriptive enough for us to comment. That
indicates only that your TV can do 480p and/or 720p. What images can
your TV display? If it can only do 480p then it's not HD. If it can
display 720p and 1080i then it's HD and you're ready to go. Also, check
the resolution of the screen and see if it can *fully* display them,
many older plasmas can display HD but at a lower resolution (Enhanced
Definition, not HD).

Your DVD player, by definition can only output 480p. You'll need a new
HD-DVD or Blu-ray player to output HD (and you'll need new media as well!).
