Default Belgian Satellite TV in France

I thought of Bill last week while watching a young couple, who were
camping in France, attempting to tune their TV dish to a satellite.

We were picnicking on the banks of the River Marne near Epernay when
this car, with Belgian number plates, towing a newish-looking caravan
arrived and set up nearby. Soon a dish was appeared on the roof and the
man with a compass in hand was shouting directions as she rotated it to
find a signal. They hadn't succeeded by the time we left. They even
moved to avoid some willow trees on the other bank. The dish was
pointing approximately north-east - roughly in the direction of Belgium!

Well yes, I am rather young and lovely.

Not so long ago I saw a bloke fixing a dish to a north facing wall. It was
on a cottage somewhere between Bawtry and Gainsborough. When I came back
from Lincoln about four hours later the ladder was still up, but there was
no-one around. Gone to the pub for a good think I expect.

Default Swedish Sats in Lincolnshire, England.

If they were pointing the dish North from Lincolnshire which is quite a
bit E of the
Greenwich Line then I imagine they would miss Sweden's Thor satellites
completely.
Signal strength would be strong should they hit upon 0.8W with a 90 cm
dish but
the unencrypted selection wouldn't get you seeking this individual
satellite.
Sirius 2 at 4.8E gives French TV5 'in the clear' and used to offer BBC
World also, but
I believe that is encrypted now. I wonder which way the dish faces
today?

Obviously pointing a dish North would miss _all_ satellites.

and Lincolnshire isn't "quite a bit E of the Greenwich Line ". It's sits
either side of it.

Yes, there's a grim place near Grimsby where the meridian is.

My apologises to Grimsby and Lincolnshire, in my mind I was considering
the East of England and, of course, Norfolk is further East which has
many advantages, particularly for coastal FM radio listeners with a
good mast aimed at the Netherlands. Great for AM Dutch reception too,
as is Lincs. I guess. Sorry, for digressing too!
I still wonder which way this dish is pointing now though?

I'll have a look next time I'm down that road.
