You may continue to watch on 11.333 H 27,500 2/3 Rapture TV believes that BSkyB is charging excessively high fees for the supply of an EPG service on the UK's only DSat platform. Rapture TV has submitted evidence that BSkyB used to charge much lower fees for the same service. Rapture TV contends that BSkyB is failing to provide the EPG Service on a cost-oriented basis and that this may be regarded as a breach of paragraph 15(A) of the Code of Practice on Electronic Programme Guides. Its about time Sky was broken up in the same way BT has been. There should really be three separate companies the satellite platform provider, program maker and home equipment provider. That's exactly how it is. Why do think it's not? One company Sky has a totally domination of the market. If this was to happen in any other industry the company would be forced in to becoming an equal player (As what happened to BT, GAS etc). Unfortunately everyone in the political parties is too scared of Mr Murdoch. Look you have already been told how the three way split works - the one thing that Sky have control of at the moment is the EPG. Oftel (as was) did have some plans on freeing this up - or creating a more open framework in the late 90's but didn't act. The EPG is stopping innovation in the UK. You are correct that certain media companies have too much dirt on politicians for them to rock the boat. I suppose agreement on one out of two points anin't bad. |

A search for "abuse of a dominant market position" will reveal what the EC or, in this country, the OFT may regulate under that article. If you look up Microsoft in that context you will also find information on the type of remedies the EC may impose and the scale of fines for failure to comply. -- Owen Rees [one of] my preferred email address[es] and more stuff can be found at http://www.users.waitrose.com/~owenrees/index.html |

So much for Sky not being a monopoly!! Who the f*ck do they think they are with the Rapture aying the above (As though Sky are some form of judge and jury) Why don't they just tell sky to f*ck off, They won't lose that many viewers and be quids in from paying EPB/Encryption fees!! |

In economics, a monopoly (from the Latin word monopolium - Greek language monos, one + polein, to sell) is defined as a persistent market situation where there is only one provider of a product or service. Monopolies are characterized by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods. This one is perhaps a bit more suitable, from slightly lower down the Google "define" page: "Any commercial process in which one seller controls prices and supply of a product." This applies in spades to Sky. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Sky do not own the satellites. Sky do not make recievers. Sky do not broadcast all the channels. Actually nearly all sat receivers sold in the UK are indeed made to a spec 100% defined by Sky, are distributed in accordance with rules made by Sky and are priced in accordance with decisions made by Sky and have "Sky" written on the front. The number of UK channels not in the Sky EPG is minimal. Sky have full control over the EPG. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
