Default Rapture TV to disappear from Sky EPG

Rapture TV is to disappear from Sky EPG.

You may continue to watch on 11.333 H 27,500 2/3

Rapture TV believes that BSkyB is charging excessively high fees for the
supply of an EPG service on the UK's only DSat platform. Rapture TV has
submitted evidence that BSkyB used to charge much lower fees for the
same service. Rapture TV contends that BSkyB is failing to provide the
EPG Service on a cost-oriented basis and that this may be regarded as a
breach of paragraph 15(A) of the Code of Practice on Electronic
Programme Guides.

Blimey!, It's taken long enough for an actual broadcaster to realise that.

Hope the rest soon follow suit (Stopping encrypting too!)

There can be no doubt that all the above is true.

I'd love to see a move toward 'proper' dSat TV in the UK - but the great
British public has been brainwashed to believe that {satellite tele =
Sky}, which as almost all of the rest of Europe realises, is not true.
Unfortunately, it will take more than a broadcaster with the status of
Rapture to start the movement. All credit to them for taking this brave
step though.
Freesat anyone?

I don't have enough information to make any informed statement about how
true it all is.

What programme information is there on the EPG for Rapture?

Who updates it and how much work does that entail?

What are the costs to BskyB?

What does BskyB charge for this 'service'?

I am in full agreement with anyone who believes there should be more (some?)
competition on the satellite TV market.

I also believe the European Commission should do something about the refusal
of Sky to sell services outside the UK and equally, just for example, the
Dutch broadcasters not allowing people to view their output outside the
Netherlands. It's supposed to be a market without barriers. With modern
encryption technology it's reasonably clear how many potential viewers a
channel has and the broadcaster could buy broadcast rights based on that
number instead of the antiquated system of geographical boundaries.

I can answer 2 of your points:-

What programme information is there on the EPG for Rapture? The next 7 days
of programmes. Also without an EPG entry there is no channel number to
select Rapture. It can only be seen by adding it (11.333 H 27,500 2/3
Rapture) to the Other Channels list, only accessible through the Services
button on the remote. Very user unfriendly.

What does BskyB charge for this 'service'? According to Rapture, BSkyB
currently demands over £76,000 per free to air channel per year. See

I would imagine that the incremental cost to Sky of adding a FTA channel to the
EPG is something approaching zero.

Its about time Sky was broken up in the same way BT has been. There should
really be three separate companies the satellite platform provider, program
maker and home equipment provider.

That's exactly how it is. Why do think it's not?
