Hello,
Can someone please help me? I recently purchased an HD Ready TV (LG 32LX2R) and HD DVD (DNX190UH) as a package. It was professionally installed and I have, today, connected the HDMI cable from the back of the TV to the back of the DVD player. However, it doesn't seem to have made any difference to the quality of the picture when I play my DVDs (although it isn't what you'd call a "bad" picture, it doesn't look HD either)! Is there something I haven't done or is there a fault with the equipment? I am not technically minded, so could you please explain in layman's terms? Thanks, Mandy |

One thing I found when searching for a system - see my post two below
yours - is that retailers often show a self-generated HD image saying "this is what the display can do" to some level connection to a cable network's HD source. Yesterday I found a newly installed, huge setup (many, many displays, side-by-side) by a large retailer. They had a 50" display, a 1080P TV cabled to a Blu-Ray player. Of course the image was excellent. All the others were connected to the local cable network, all displayed, in this case, Discovery's HD channel. Image was terrible. Ghosting. A lot of pixeling. A lot of obvious image processing, and poor at that. The salesman said the artifacts were due to their cabling! all component video. How does this apply to your question? What we see at a retailer is not always going to be what we end up with at home. It was interesting to see - MANY "out-of-box" products on their shelves, i.e. TVs that were said to have been returned. That be true, sounds like when the TV gets home, the net image is not what the buyer expected. BTW, this retailer had "tons" of HD-DVD disks available, OLD material at that, but NO HD-DVD setup! Their full HD displays were Blu-Raydriven, but NO disks were being sold. Huh? Wayne "Mandy" wrote in message oups.com... Hello, Can someone please help me? Perhaps a dumb question, but are you watching a HD Disk? Also, have
you set your TV to 1080i? Unfortunately, since I do not have a HD-DVD, I'm a bit in the dark ![]() Keith http://www.eHDMI.com Mandy wrote: Hello, Can someone please help me? Thanks Keith, it's not a dumb question - I'm just watching an ordinary
DVD and I don't know how to change my TV to 1080i. Does anyone out there know how I can do this? Thanks, Mandy eHDMI wrote: Perhaps a dumb question, but are you watching a HD Disk? Thanks, Mandy There wont be any change in vid quality. HDMI is mostly about anti-piracy encoding that no one is actually implimenting at this time. The only real advantage is that U get less wires and a smaller form factor compared to component plugs. |

Thanks, Mandy There may be a button on the remote that says format, or it may be hidden in a menu somewhere. Look in the manual. First and foremost, the DNX190UH is not an HD DVD player. It simply upscales ordinary DVDs to the "equivalent" resolution of HD-DVDs. In other words, as a upscaler, it is one of many but it cannot play any of the new HD or BD discs. (I do not know this player but I googled it to learn this.) Second, in order to get the best performance out of what you have, you need to learn how, or get someone else, to set up the player and the display optimally. Kal |
