Default Are any stations showing remastered Star Trek (TOS) in HDTV?

http://www.startrek.com/startrek/vie...cle/25835.html posted its two Web
pages showing the the schedule and affliates showing the digital remastered
original Star Trek series.

Here's what it said: "Beginning September 16 (2006), the special digital
remasters of Star Trek will begin airing throughout the country. Below is the
scheduled episode by week, with the affiliate city and station on Page 2. This
list is merely a guide as to what is released each week, with the airtime in your
city determined by the local affiliate. The week's episode could air on the
Saturday or Sunday, so we would advise that you check your local listings for
times in your area." ...

It looks like KNBC 4 is not showing it in high definition television (HDTV)
format. I will watch the first episode to see how it is.

What about the rest of the channels? Any ideas why no HDTV? Thank you in advance.

The word is that no stations will be showing the remastered Star Trek
original series in HD right now. The problem is that the syndication
distribution system is still being upgraded to handle HD. The second is
that not many stations are equipped for broadcasting syndicated HD
programming. Most stations just pass on the HD signal from the network.
They don't have HD tape machines/servers or the converters needed for
in-house HD broadcasting.

But the game shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune have started
offering a HD version to their 200+ stations and a few stations started
showing them in HD on Monday of this week. More stations have indicated
that they are buying the gear to soon follow. With Jeopardy having
broken a trail, we may see some stations take up the ST: original series
in HD.
But this will be hit or mostly miss depending on where you live. Email
or call your local station and ask why are they not showing the
remastered original series in HD. If enough people call, the station
manager may say, what the heck, we will need to get the HD equipment
anyway for the day Oprah & other daytime programs go HD, so why not go
ahead and buy it? Of course, for those stuck in rural areas where the
local stations are still at very low power on the digital channel and SD
digital only at that, there will be long wait before this happens.

Thanks Alan. That stinks. I was looking forward to rewatch TOS in HDTV, but I
guess I am not planning to. Maybe I will just watch the first episode and see how
it is.

So, are you saying that KNBC (local affliate) doesn't have the HDTV system for
recorded shows? I know I have seen them show stuff in HDTV.

Channel 21.1 and 21.2 here have it scheduled to air at 3AM 9/17. 21.1 is
HD and 21.2 is SD. I've set 21.1 to record it. I'll let you know if it's
in HD are not if I don't forget.

When most stations are showing real HD programming, they are passing
along the real-time feed from the network - either the east coast feed
for the Eastern and Central time zones, the west coast feed for pacific
time. They are not playing it from a tape or HD. Many stations in the
mountain time zone however, do have HD recording and playback capability
because they delay the east coast feed.

KNBC is a NBC owned & operated (O&O) station. NBC recently announced
that they were upgrading the local news for all their O&O stations to HD
for all the local news programming. The local news for WNBC in New York
City went HD just last week. So KNBC may not be far off for local news
in HD. This means that if they already don't have the equipment to store
downloaded HD and play it locally, they soon will. KNBC being a flagship
NBC O&O station, they very likely already do.

But whether they will bother with Star Trek: TOS in HD is another
matter. Email the station. You might get a reply.

Neither WNBC or KNBC has a Star Trek episode scheduled
in the next two weeks.

In the San Francisco market, the CW affiliate (CBS owned)
and an independent in Santa Rosa will broadcast the remastered
ST episode in the weekend of Sept. 16-17.

Since CBS seems to be involved with Star Trek, you are not likely
to see any episodes on NBC channels. Look here...

Already did earlier through http://www.nbc4.tv/contactus/ ... Now, the question is will they
read and reply?

What? Then, how come three TV guides and
http://www.startrek.com/startrek/vie...35.html?page=1 say they are shown on the
weekend of 16th?

The titantv schedule link at KNBC's website lists a showing of the
Balance of Terror at 12:05 AM Sunday night. Not hard to find.

Thanks for the links of stations showing TOS. I was wondering if there
was one. If any of them start showing ST:TOS in HD, someone at
avsforum.com can use it as a master list to compare against for a list
of who is showing it in HD. Someone has started on a list of which
stations are showing Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune in HD (KABC in LA is
on the list, BTW).

It took some searching because apparently WNBC doesn't post their
broadcast schedule on their web site, but I found this at:

http://trekweb.com/post.php?aid=44f6...227ef9&quote=y

STAR TREK: ENHANCED will be premiering on WNBC 4 in the New York
Tri-State area on Sunday, September 17th at 3:00 a.m. (technically
it's Monday, 9/18 at 3:00 a.m. but we're dealing with a TV calendar
here).
