See if you like this one better:

http://www.wired.com/news/technology...n_technology_1

Let's see,

1) This is a new link, so are you admitting that the other links had
nothing relevant? That was my original point.

2) I've addressed this in another post, but the point is *not* that the
FCC has mandated it, I agree with you on that. The point is that some
cable companies are defying that mandate. And as wrong as that is, it
doesn't make it any easier if you are trying to get a cablecard from a
company that refuses to give you one.

What the hell, Jack, there's nothing about the subject line in these links!

Not at all true. Sorry your reading comprehension is so poor.

Can you show me a quote from one of these links that mentions the
cablecard FCC mandate? I read the first link in the entirety (and
actually found some info pertaining to cablecard portability that was
applicable to another post), and there's nothing there regarding
mandates (which is what the post subject states).

I only ask this because I *am* looking for documentation to that effect.
It would be useful to present to the cable companies that are refusing
to install cablecards in S3's.

First link: Search for "mandate" comes up with one reference:
copy to DVD ...
As a part of the regulations for Plug-and-Play, the FCC has mandated
"Copy Protection" of digital content.

Second link: Search for "mandate" results in no matches. Article has
a comment from the FCC that appears to be a year or two old:
The FCC’s new “plug-and-play” rules will ensure that most cable
systems are compatible with DTV receivers and related consumer
electronics equipment.

Third link: No match for "mandate", "FCC", or "F.C.C.".
Even though it does not match the Subject line in this thread,
it points to a very informative page, so to that extent, it is
a good link.

Thanks, that's definitely more along the right lines.

I actually provided that link myself earlier and was the reason this
whole discussion got started ;-).

Just to correct myself, I guess the price is $799 so the costs would
be 862+199 = $1061 which is still a hefty chunk of change.
