Default Viewing Figures

Hi

When you read about the viewing figures for tv programmes - how do they
know, for example, that 3.2 million people watched one programme and
1.2 million watched another?

Many thanks

The newsreaders count how many people who are watching.

Many thanks

But surely he'd have it pointing at him?

Since Tony Blair came to office all new TVs sold in the UK have had a
camera fitted. The information is relayed back to the security services
and as a consequence of Freedom of Information Act the TV stations are
now able to obtain true viewing figures.

Oh I see. How clever - they just count the number of bottoms being bared
at the camera.

Yep, and that's how they counted the arseholes that voted him in last
time. I leave it to the imagination about how they counted the
supporters for the alternative parties.

So the figures are ********, IMO. If everyone in the selected group says
they watched EastEnders last night, BARB will assume the whole country did.

And they'd be pretty close in such a case, assuming the sampling is done
appropriately. If you're still in doubt research statistics & sampling.
