Default samsung series question

The new Samsung DLP tv, in 50", is the HL-S5087W.

The 05 model, HL-R5067W seems to have the same components as the new 87
series.

The cost for the 2005 67 series is considerably less.

Is there anything remarkably new about the 87 series I should know about
before I purchase the HL-R5067W set?

There seems to be no technological difference, only cosmetic.

Thanks.

Big and MAJOR differences!

The 87 series is 1080p, the 67 series is 780.
10,000:1 contrast level v's 2000:1

The HLS series has newer "innards" and supposedly more
improvements (newer chip and faster color wheel) and a few
other features differences i.e. game mode, DVI, HDMI etc etc.

Considerably less cost is the HL-S5086W, which I just ordered
at Amazon for $1310.88.

Thanks Gary.

Have you got the TV yet? If so, how do you like it?

What's the differences between the HL-S5086W and the 87w series?

btw, Prestige Camera has the 5086w for $1215.00 ... of course we both know
it'll be about $700 in 6 months time ..... lol

Thanks for your help. This is a tough and costly decision ......

Price!
I'm told I am a cheapass by the wife. I prefer frugal, LOL!

Really, the 5067 is an HLR. The 5086 is the newer HLS series.
Reviews I take with a grain of salt. Like the service industry, people are
quick
to complain (with expert like opinions), yet slow to compliment.

I still have 8-tracks, so PIP in too confusing for me watch or enjoy.

No, the 5087 is better but costlier too.

Comcast in my area broadcasts only in 780p.

Same here. I researched what was available in the metro Chicagoland area,
including over the air broadcasts and then considered what *I* like to
watch.
The HLS __86W series, 720p won. Kind of like owning a Ferrari and not
having any place to drive it :-)

Try your area here http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx
to see what is available OTA. I am only 5.8 miles from towers,
so I like my odds.

For now, I'm going strickly OTA. My only loss is Monday Night Football
going to ESPN, but I gain the new OTA Sunday Night Footbal in HD.

When you have some time, put a pot of coffee on and read this rather
long thread. It influenced my decision.

I'm a cheap ******* myself Gary, but I like to say I'm "fiscally
conservative" ...... lol

From what I'm reading, I don't see why I should go with the higher priced,
less satisfactory 86w, 87w or 88w.
The 67w is much lower in price, has the PIP and doesn't need 1080p as I only
get 780p from cable.
The 86w doesn't have PIP and is also 780p resolution.

The 86w has a user rating of 6.5 and the 67w a rating of 7.9 .....

I've been looking and waiting for over a year now ...... lol

When I decided on the HL-R5067w the price was $2300 ...... it's now $1049.

I think it's time to buy ....

Thanks,
Phil

Hey Gary,

WOW Phil! Where did you find that price?

Check it out ........

http://www.crazy4digital.com/product...productid=1543

They've always had pretty good prices on most every brand/model and shipping
is very reasonable.

I'm tired of waiting .... it's time to buy.

I was curious how 720p would be compared to 1080i and from what I
understand, 720p is a better picture and it will be a long time before 1080p
is out and by then it'd be time for a new set.

all the best,
Phil
