Notice that Sky have yet to show ANY tennis in HD at all, which is
annoying given that they have done for much lesser sports like "Speedway". Anyone think they will start showing tennis in HD eventually? Must say that for an NTSC conversion, Sky's picture quality from the USO has been pretty good this year, and infinitely superior to that of the amateurs at Eurosport..................... |

Have Sky been host broadcasters for any tennis though ? Did CBS host broadcast the USO in HD ? AFAIK the Beeb's Wimbledon coverage has been the only HD tennis available so far ? -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

USO has been in HD on Universal HD when USA had coverage and CBS HD otherwise. The gulf between the CBS HD and their regular coverage seems more than USA Network's. -- Cheers, vc |

Have Sky been host broadcasters for any tennis though ? No, but they show US Tour Golf in HD and they are not the host broadcaster for this event either. AFAIK, you don't have to be the host broadcaster in order to broadcast the images in HD. Did CBS host broadcast the USO in HD ? AFAIK the Beeb's Wimbledon coverage has been the only HD tennis available so far ? In the UK, yes this is correct, and I believe that this was almost like a trial. It just annoys me that lesser sports such as Speedway have been shown on Sky's HD channels, but no tennis. |

As far as I'm aware, Sky haven't shown any overseas sport in HD. Just because a programme is on Sky Sport HD1 or Sky Sports HD2, it doesn't mean it is in HD. Everything they show on SSHD1/HD2 is also shown on one of the normal sports channels. What would be the point in showing the same thing on two different channels, if they are both an SD broadcast? Are Sky lying when they claim to be showing US Tour Golf in HD? What's the point in a HD channel if not all of the content is HD? And anyway, Sky did indeed show the US Open Men's SFs and the Women's final last night on SSHD1 - why would they do this if this was not actual HD, if these events were also shown on the regular SS channels? That would be a waste of channel space.......... |

SSHD1 and HD2 each simulcast one of the regular Sky Sports channels (it varies which one daily). If the sport is one that they are covering in HD, then it will be in HD, otherwise it is just upscaled SD. What exactly is "upscaled SD"? Higher bitrate? |

Richard wrote: In article . com, says... What exactly is "upscaled SD"? Higher bitrate? It does have a higher bitrate, but the upscaling part means it is transmitted at 1080i rather then the 576i of SD (which it originates in). I think that's a bit of a con as, if it's on one of the SSHD channels, most people would assume (unless they could tell otherwise) that it is true HD - the symbols on the EPG aren't obvious to everyone. I guess Sky are doing this to try and fill up their HD channels with as much as possible? |
