Default Anyone know largest HDTV no wider than 37.5" cabinet?

I know this has been brought up before, but in a nutshell I am shopping
for a TV that has to go in a wall unit, and unfortunately getting rid
of the wall unit is not an option. The width of the opening is 37.5"
(Height is not a problem). I know I can fit a 37" HDTV in there but I
was hoping to squeeze a 40" in there. I looked through some of the
manufacturer's websites to see the specs but most of the 40" I've seen
are to big.
Actually, the Sony Grand Wega 42"HDTV is 39.33" wide, so there may be a
possibity that a 40" can fit in there. If anyone knows of an HDTV that
would fit, I would appreciate you input. Thanks.

Is attaching a sturdy but shallow shelf to the bottom of your
opening an option? If so, only a few inches of projection
beyond the body of the unit will allow you to install a thin
(LCD, say) set wider than the opening. The shelf may need
to be shaped to include a further round extension at the
center, to support the base of the set.

This won't work, however, if the wall unit has doors that
must open a full 90 degrees towards the opening, as the
edges of the set may obstruct them.

I don't trust typos or misprints, I take a tape measure to a store and see
for myself. Do that if possible or at least double check it.

Thanks for the inputs. Unfortunately the wall unit has doors that would
get in the way of the TV, so that option is out.

I also agree, don't go by what specs sheets say. Got to the store with
a tape measure and take actual measurements.
