Hi all,
Why are there so many advertisments (when we are paying a
subscription)and is it me or do they increase the volume when the adverts
come on, and why are the adverts on every channel at the same time.

Sky+ solves this problem.

Why do all the programs start on the hour or half hour, why don`t they
stagger the start times,

Sky+ solves this problems

And unloads your wallet of an extra tenner per month? (Not to mention the
extra cost for the box and having to pause 1 hour to watch three programmes
without ADS!)

I've always caught up, perhaps Sky should try a 1 DAY buffer not the useless
1 hour :-/

But if you're already paying for at least 2 packages then there's no
extra.

Under £100, or cheaper in many cases.

Or just doing something more productive for that hour while the box
records the programmes for you to watch when it's convenient. It's
only truly live action you really 'need' to watch 'live' after all.

A Sky+ box is under £100 or cheaper in many cases?

Well - "brand new customers only" , or 2nd hand.
Anywhere else?

Yep. If you phone up to cancel you can usually get some sort of deal.

That's a big "if". Many people don't subscribe to Sky and don't want
to. They have Sky equipment to receive C4 and C5, and the many FTA
channels.

Again, if you subscribe.

That's a big "if". Many people don't subscribe to Sky and don't want

Then they can use their non-subscription recording equipment.

Well, yes. That's what we're talking about after all.

whats that? sounds (no pun intended) interesting, annoys me as well the
way
they ramp up the vol on ads even if they use some technical trick to prove
they dont really.

They don't ramp up the volume and don't use a technical trick to prove
that they don't. The ADVERTISERS use a technical trick to make their
adverts SOUND louder when the volume ISN'T turned up.

The production company that makes the ads gets away with it by compressing
the ads sound so that there is no dynamic range in the audio and this gives
the impression of being louder that a programme which has a wider dynamic
range.

Feature films are the worse, they can have a very wide dynamic range from
quiet dialogue to loud effects, so most people have to turn up the sound on
their tellies to hear the dialogue and then wham in comes an advert with
heavily compressed sound that's louder than the dialogue, remote control
straight into Volume down mode

Now if they compressed the audio on feature films and got rid of the wide
dynamic range and gave the level a little boost, you wouldn't be jumping for
the remote at every break.

Alas, all the advert sound levels are within specs, if that be TV
Broadcaster or OfCom.

Dave
