I got my hands on an NTL set top box and plugged it into the coax in my
room. The line has not been unused for two years. It worked, and I got all the BBC channels, ITV1, ITV2, C4 etc.... I don't subscribe to NTL, but it's being delivered free. My question is, why deliver most of the channels in the Free Pack, but prevent access to a few like C5 and Sky News. Very odd. David |

David Why try plugging in a NTL STB when you should find over 20 analogue channels between 100 and 500 MHz with a hyperband tuner TV Steve Terry |

At best, you'll get the five analogue off-airs. The remaining analogues will be scrambled. Ian. -- |

I'm using an NTL digital STB, and I don't have any NTL subscriptions. Their website says you get the Free Pack when you rent a phone line. I'm guessing that the STB must be worth a few quid to them. |

OK. You might find you get those channels just on analogue direct to the TV, without the STB. |

Owain In most UK cable systems, TV signals on frequencies between 56 and around 500MHz are predominantly analogue (and most are scrambled). Those which are not scrambled may be received directly on any TV set which can tune to them (and can also handle the large channel loading). Some digital QAM transport streams may be mixed in with the analogues. Above 500Mhz, they are generally all digital. The number of analogues is decreasing, and the number of digitals is decreasing. A few networks have gone over to digital-only. Ian. -- |
