May be by the second half of 2008, C4 may be Free To Air once it's CAM
contract expires.

It is unlikely FIVE would take a lead in moving Free To Air at least until
then.

What's worse is that RTL, FIVE's owners, are switching from FTA to a
subscription / encryption model on their German 19.2 digital satellite
service. Not a good sign at the strategy level.

I expect C4 is posturing on if/when/whenever the phantom vapour-ware BBC /
****V "free sat" product ever appears. I can't see much happening there, can
you, apart from sound of ITV director's leafing through wads of their own
bank notes as their channel declines even further?

C4 may be wavering to see what deals BSKYB / Newscorp offers them in 2008.

Other people might know of stuff happening of course?

It is a pain C4 not being FTA, otherwise lots of people could enjoy using
the Topfield Digital Satellite PVR and similar cool products.

It is.

It'll be interesting to see what encryption status Five's two new
channels will have when they launch next month.

It will indeed.

A fiver is will be "free" to Sky Subscribers only just like E4 and 4MORON is
"free". ;-)

You will remember how under Astra 19.2 C5 was soft-encrypted but without a
card. Curious how this miracle stopped working under the Sky controlled
system? ;-)

To make money for Sky / Newscorp / NDS.

To make money for lawyers.

To pretend that Europe is full of English speaking viewers with 120CM dishes
pointed as Astra 2D.

To pretend that no-one Ebay's Sky viewing cards and second hand set top
boxes for about the same price as a DVD and DVD player.

;-)

So that $ky can maintain a monopoly of satellite TV?
or at least the sale of boxes and the EPG!.

To (in theory) restrict viewing to just the UK.
