I'm just wondering whether the Humax PVR9200T can store normal data files on
the hard drive or whether it's got to be audio, video or photo files? The manual just says this about it on page 72 of the pdf file: "11.3 File Download from PC You can enjoy the music and view the photos by downloading the items from your PC to the product with 'Media-e linker' program. (USB cables used for external HDDs are purchasable.) Follow the instructions to download files: 1. Double-click 'Media eLinker Setup.exe' on CD-ROM to install the USB driver and application program. You can also download the setup file from www.humaxdigital.com. 2. Connect USB on the product to USB on the PC using USB cable. 3. Double-click 'Media eLinker.exe' to start USB application. For more information about How to use Media eLinker, refer to Readme.doc on CD-ROM." -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info Find the cheapest Freeview & DAB prices: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/fr..._receivers.php http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/dab/dab_radios.php |

Do the contents of the hard drive show up in Windows Explorer (or on whichever OS you're using) as an external drive, like when you connect a mobile phone or MP3 player? Why would you want to do such a thing? It would save me buying an external hard drive if I could backup some stuff on the Humax. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info Find the cheapest Freeview & DAB prices: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/fr..._receivers.php http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/dab/dab_radios.php |

Do the contents of the hard drive show up in Windows Explorer (or on whichever OS you're using) as an external drive, like when you connect a mobile phone or MP3 player? It is not a USB device which is recognised by the operating system and visible as an additional drive. The special software by Humax appears to be the only (simple) way to t/f data (but there is also http://www.enigma.eclipse.co.uk/huma...Controller.htm and possibly more) That does not rule out transfer to the Humax of other files but I have not tried it. |

I'll have a read of that, thanks a lot. Note that you are limited to 5 GB in the MP3/JPEG partition, and transfer to the video partition would probably screw up the normal operation of the PVR. Also the two things would have to be close enough for a reasonable length of USB cable. I don't really think using the Humax as a backup device is a very sensible idea, but YMMV. -- Max Demian |

Yeah, after reading the page that Robin provided a link to it says data transfer is pretty error-prone, so it wouldn't be suitable for backing up data files, so I've decided to sack the idea. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info Find the cheapest Freeview & DAB prices: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/fr..._receivers.php http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/dab/dab_radios.php |

Just bought one of these... http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=45HK (though I see the price has gone up now!) I like Seagate HDDs. They're quiet. This seems a sensible way to backup data (combined with CD-Rs or DVD-Rs) as long as you check all backups regularly. Cheers, David. |

What would it have cost to make it appear as a removable storage device. Nothing. What would it have cost to make it Ethernet compatible. Next to nothing. What would it have cost to make it play back standard MPEG or DivX files. Peanuts. Don't these people think or is it deliberate ? That does not rule out transfer to the Humax of other files but I have not tried it. |

The above is only straightforward if the data cannot be written to while the device is accessible. IOW not in the case of a PVR, unless all recording facilities are disabled when it's attached to an external device. -- Michael m r o z a t u k g a t e w a y d o t n e t |
