Hi all,
I'm getting ready to buy my first HDTV and I am wondering what the pro's and con's are in getting a TV with a cablecard slot other than not having a STB sitting near the TV and another remote cluttering up the coffee table? Is that the wave of the future? On person mentioned that with a cablecard I would not be able to get OnDemand programming, at least on Comcast. Any thoughts, comments?? Thanks, -=tom=- |

Thanks, -=tom=- You have all of that correct, both the pro's and the cons. The next version of Tivo, the Series 3, will have two cablecard slots and they have notified the cable companies. They also had a deal with Comcast to distribute the new Tivo boxes. We'll have to see how the pricing plays out. The two cable cards let the Tivo use its two tuners so that you can record two shows at the same time (and watch a previously recorded show at the same time), or watch something live while recording something else. Well I was just informed of the tie-breaker. No menu system which I
don't really care about. But you also loose DVR, unless I buy Comcasts. Nah - not worth it to me. I hate TIVO and similar services anyway. STB it is!! -=tom=- Tom Orle wrote: Hi all, I'm getting ready to buy my first HDTV and I am wondering what the pro's and con's are in getting a TV with a cablecard slot other than not having a STB sitting near the TV and another remote cluttering up the coffee table?
