It would be more polite to address the question rather than
making political speeches. Its probably safer to live in Iran than rogue states led by insane religious leaders, like the USA. -- Jim Watt "Polite?" **** you. "Politcal speech?" **** you. Four sentences is a speech? Its an "opinion." Which I am free to have & express here. It would be "more polite" of you stick to the topic if you don't like the thread I started, as a free American. "Rogue state?" American Freedom is engulfing the world. Its a long & painful process because a lot of societies fear the evolution & if you don't like it, fight & die. Many have & more will. |

As noted, some types of glass will pass satellite signals, and others won't.
Plain glass works fine. Glass with various kinds of coatings can be a problem. All glass attenuates the signal somewhat, so double-pane windows will pose more of a challenge. Plexiglass (ie plastic or acrylic) is better at passing RF satellite signals than glass. Regarding a mesh dish, you need to consider what kinds of signals you want to receive. The comments of the poster below apply to C-band signals, but the original poster is most likely interested in Ku-band signals, which require a finer mesh. To pass Ku-band signals, the holes in the wire mesh must be smaller than a typical pencil. I would suggest that the best option for the original poster is to find clever ways to cover an outdoor dish. A big plastic garbage can turned upside down can work fine. I've seen fake rocks made for this purpose as well (also made of plastic). You can of course just build a tarp-covered structure or similar. Basically, anything that fits over the dish and isn't made substantially of metal should be okay. You might even consider "potting" the dish with lots of expanding foam, then carving an interesting (or utilitarian) shape from it. Homer wrote: I am not really sure how signal can pass a brick wall or a glass window. I believe when these website are talking about "inside dish" they are talking about size and not sensitivity. The only way that I know of is to replace a glass window with a transparent plastic version (acrylic) and put the dish behind it. Another way is to make dish from chicken wire. As long as wires are less than one centimeter apart you will get the signal like the regulate dish. In this way, dish will be less noticeable if you leave it outside. [snip] |

It'll certainly be interesting to see how that case gets handled. But without actual details, beyond cut-and-paste newsfeed text, it's pointless to speculate. Regardless it has little or nothing to do with supporting your ludicrous claims about safety or religious leadership influence. It's rather pathetic if what you want to do is somehow disarm someone else's argument by deflecting the argument to criticize the country. The two issues just don't conflate. But hey, it's clear from your other postings you don't exactly possess an excess of debating skills. Thats looks rather like the "can't discuss the issues so lets shoot the messenger" answer. The reason this guy is in trouble is because your Government has decided that you are not allowed to see al-Manar because a small lobby group the 'Coalition Against Terrorist Media' has campaigned to have it banned. They have taken away YOUR freedom to watch and listen to the point of view of those who are bombed and murdered by state founded by terrorists that engages in assassination and bombing of its opponents. It has nuclear and chemical weapons as well as a wide network of intelligence gathering and lobby groups in your country. You critisise the Iranian Government for restricting reception but yours, at the insistance of a small lobby group defending the interests of a foreign state bans the transmission from the satellite. There seems to be little difference in the result. Your Government is still holding innocent people without trial in Guantanamo, and stem cell research is banned on religious grounds by the leader. Thankfully I somewhere which has not signed up to fast track extradition to the US for alleged crimes committed outside your jurisdiction, so can write freely unlike the those resident in the United Kingdom who can be on a plane to the US faster than you could say 'Natwest Three' or David Carruthers. Now all I wanted to do was advise a guy in Iran how he could watch Eastenders without drawing the attention of the thought police. As your Government already can control what is shown on satellite, is currently trying to control what you can access on the Internet, and is listening to your phone calls to make sure you comply - you will have to address your problems directly, but don't deny they exist. Now assure me this is not serious ... http://www.cafepress.com/electionoutlet.39700142 -- Jim Watt http://www.gibnet.com |

Woven corroded wire will not work. Galvanized chicken wire will, as it is galvanized after forming. But the holes are too large (perhaps the 1 cm square holesstuff can work)? Also, the dish shape needs to be exact to a percentage of the wavelength. This means a C-band dish can be more 'out of shape' than a Ku-band dish. Making the dish in the right shape will be pretty hard. Thomas |

I think nobody would miss Al-Manar's propaganda. But there are more propaganda channels in the world than this one. It is strange to see how shallow our 'freedom' is. To quote Roger Waters: "We've got Mercedes We've got Porsche Ferrari and Rolls Royce We've got a choice" - indeed. Thomas |
