Oh all right then, 'better'. Actually, John would never spot a thing like
that that. He's an apostrophes man.

Mr Pemberton makes the odd contribution though.

With regard to the 'it' word, it's true to say its possesive form
requires no apostrophe. However, it's mandated for the contraction of
"it is". It's rather confusing to most that its rule of the apostrophe
for its possesive form should be seemingly so contrary. One might be
tempted to say it's the rule that proves its exception. :-)

What does everyone think of the BBC these days as an organisation? Is
it in its creative prime? Or are its glory days over?

Dunno but I caught a bit of "Extras" (BBC2) , it went something like this:-

(Jervais) "I can just see the headlines ex-TV star drinks himself to death"

(Her) "Oh don't be silly darling , you were never a star"

Made me chuckle anyway :O)

Perhaps even sadder is checking to see if there is such a group. There
is!

You forgot the possessive on goodness - it's your goodness, so it
should have been goodness' ;-)

I think that they are still ahead of the rest.

It's just that the average has gone down a long way
in the last 20 years.

Bill your getting to sound like the dyslexic atheist who spent all his

I had a piece of cod which passeth all understanding from the fish shop
the other week...

Did you hear about the mysterious and powerful cod though?

Two prawns, by the names of Justin and Christian were swimming along in
the clear warm blue waters of the reef. Christian said:

"You know it is not a bad life being a prawn in these waters... plenty
of food and not too much danger, other than the sharks that is"

Justin said, "yup you are right, but I recon it would be better being a
shark, just think of the power you would command, and the respect you
would get. I would love to be a shark!"

Just at that moment a rather mysterious cod was swiming past. It came
over and said to the boys: "Sorry to interrupt, but I could not help but
overhear your conversation." He looked at Justin and said "Is it true
that you would like to be a shark? Because if so, I have the power to
grant you that wish, since I am a magic cod!".

Justin was amazed, and at first thought it was a joke. Then he realised
the cod was serious. So he said: "Oh yes, I really would love to be a
shark!". With that, the cod gave a flick of his magic tail and the prawn
was suddenly transformed into a massive and powerful shark.

His friend was terrified and swam for his life. Justin said "Don't be
scared, come back", but his friend called from the distance "No chance,
you will eat me!". So with that Justin thought "Never mind, he will come
round" and set off for some fun!

He had a great time scaring the other fish, and lording it about as
"king of the reef".

While it was fun for a while, he soon realised that he had no one to
talk to, as all the other fish were too scared to come close. After a
few days he was feeling rather sad. As he swam along, he said to himself
"This is not much fun". Then all of a sudden he cought a glimpse of the
magic cod again. So he swam over to him, and explained why he was so
unhappy. The cod said: "if you truly desire, I can return you to your
previous form again". Justin quickly agreed.

A flick of the tail later and Justin is back as he once was. So he swims
off to find his friend in the reef. When he arrives at the shell, he
finds the entrance blocked. So he calls out "Let me in!" A reply from
inside says "Go away, I am not going to be a tasty snack for you!"

So Justin says: "No, no, you don't understand! I have found cod, and now
I am a prawn again Christian!"
