Default Sky+ and phone line?

Since moving into our new house we have not had our Sky Digital box plugged
into the phone (it was in our previous house though) and the phone socket is
across the house away. Wasn't a problem as I never bother with the dial-up
services or pay-per-view movies

I'm thinking about getting plus, does the box have to be plugged into the
phone to function properly?

Thanks

No, but its part of the contract that you have it plugged in for the first
year. AFAIK you can get away with plugging it in every now and again to stop
the nagging, and also avoid having to pull up carpets or have long trailing
leads, if thats your concern. Mine is only intermittently plugged in but its
well over the 12 month period.

Mine has never been plugged in other than for the initial install and
pairing using an extension lead.
Regular Sky, Sky+, now Sky HD.
Never wanted or needed to use a service that required the phone line
Despite the contracts, never had any problem with the installers, with daily
use of the box, and never been nagged by Sky.

Multiroom is different though - they definitely chase you up on that

See the FAQ.

Sky will require the phone connection for activation and the contract
requires the phone connection for 12 months (if you get a cheap
box/install from Sky).

In practice you can remove the phone connection the second the
installer leaves.
