"Jim Watt" wrote in message ... and only needs a small non dishlike antenna might be a better choice I have seen a chicken run with the wire pulled into a parabola working as a dish. I wonder if it would be possible to design a parabolic dish with a very long focal length so that the recieved signal could be reflected to a small secondary dish concealable as a 'hanging basket'. This would have the advantage of the receiving dish being passive and away from any technology. The secondary dish would not appear to be big enough or pointed at the correct direction. |

Doesnt sound like you need a dish.
Sounds like you need to leave Iran because indoor dishes will be outlawed soon enough. Maybe just long enough for you to make a few bucks...to leave the country. I see your shrewed plan. |

Normal window glass attenuates satellite signal considerably and it does not contain any significant lead. No you are wrong and UCLAN is correct. Its what is contained in the glass whether it be added lead or gas in double paned glass that causes the signal to degrade or reflect, or natural occuring items in the silicate used to make the glass. It may be that in the UK you can get a usuable signal with a medium size dish behind glass, but there you don't even need a dish to get a signal. |

Its probably safer to live in Iran than rogue states led by insane religious leaders, like the USA. Oh that's bull****. Those that would sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither. Is it "better" to bother putting yourself at greater risk to circumvent the outrageous local laws or get the laws changed? Sure, in the short term it might seem convenient to find ways to break the law because it's cheaper or easier. But the same government that would make such an outrageous law is quite likely to impose equally outrageous penalities if they catch you trying to cheat. And for something as basic as being able to get information and to freely communicate with others it's outrageous to put up with laws like that. As for "religious leaders", please, you apparently no nothing about what influences actually exist, in the US or Iran. |

I don't know about soc.culture.iranian but the other groups this message is cross posted to are groups concerned with addressing technical problems rather than the modality of overthrowing governments. But as you want to stand up for freedom heres something closer to home. Man Posts Bail in Hezbollah TV Case NY Times By JENNIFER 8. LEE and WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM Published: August 29, 2006 A Staten Island man charged with trying to transmit broadcasts from an Arabic television station controlled by Hezbollah was released on bail yesterday, the law firm representing him said. The man, Javed Iqbal, 42, returned to his two-story home in Mariners Harbor yesterday after a friend signed as his guarantor. Mr. Iqbal plans to post his house as security against the $250,000 bond by the end of the month, the law firm said. At his home yesterday, his wife said he declined to comment. On Thursday, Mr. Iqbal was charged with one count of conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a federal law that allows the president to regulate commercial and financial transactions in response to a threat to national security or foreign policy. The government said Mr. Iqbal sought to provide customers services that included satellite broadcasts of the television station, Al Manar. That is a violation of federal law, since the station which is controlled by the Lebanese group Hezbollah was designated a global terrorist entity by the United States Treasury Department in March. /more BTW he was trying to 'transmit' them on the internet -- Jim Watt http://www.gibnet.com |

Uh no, he was trying to RESELL them. And as such broke the law, regardless of transmission medium. It'll certainly be interesting to see how that case gets handled. But without actual details, beyond cut-and-paste newsfeed text, it's pointless to speculate. Regardless it has little or nothing to do with supporting your ludicrous claims about safety or religious leadership influence. It's rather pathetic if what you want to do is somehow disarm someone else's argument by deflecting the argument to criticize the country. The two issues just don't conflate. But hey, it's clear from your other postings you don't exactly possess an excess of debating skills. |
