Just noticed a posting elsewhere that the Sony VTX-D800U is scheduled
for a s/w update on 8th September

Good. Will it enable S-Video out from SCART 2 to be set manually without the
presence of a recorder with Smartlink ?

I very much doubt it will enable anything as useful as that.

Who Knows? Unlikely in my view. I think that the recent problems with the
BBCi news multiscreen and various digital text services is a more probable
area to be addressed by any small changes. I'm only expecting small changes
because I note that while the latest broadcast update is v1.12.00 new boxes
have apparently been shipping with v1.12.02.

The update seems to have been moved to 5th October.

My sony box has a problem with the epg, it always displays "no event
information" for about a dozen channels, including UKTV History, UKTV
Bright Ideas, Film4, E4+1. Do you think the software update will fix
this, or do I have a faulty box? I have an old Pioneer ondigital box in
another room (same aerial) which can display the information ok and the
sony shows the same problem in both rooms.

Has anybody elses VTX-D800u been playing silly buggers lately? Mines knows
whets on...title time etc...but doesn't know ANYTHING specific! In other
words, in my EPG the show titles and times are shown but I get no other
information. I've found if I turn it off at the mains for an hour or so the
info comes back....but not for long! Any ideas? Is there some kind of hard
reset I can perform to settle this?

I have notice it do this once or twice recently, but only for one or two
programmes. One evening recently it had no info for all the movies on
Film 4 which is the worst I have seen of this problem.

My EPG works fine for the channels you mention. It hasn't got the latest
update. I hope that this helps.

My Sony seems to have recently (over the last week) become unable to display
the subscription screens for the TVX or Redhot channels. Since around 21/8,
the MHEG application (data service) does not appear after the 10 min
freeview at 11:00pm. The box just displays "no video, no audio".
Very strange. Wonder if the firmware upgrade will fix this ?
