Just spotted in a satellite receiver user guide that 'the antenna cable
must be earthed'. It's unclear whether this refers to the IF cable from
the LNB or the through-connected terrestrial feeder to the telly, or
both, but it's a condition unlikely to be met in the average domestic
installation isn't it?

When we used to buy US steerable kit in the late 80s it was always plastered
with warnings about earthing. You were supposed to put a fat earthing strap
between the polar mount and ground.

It is in fact specified by local Councils for multi sat installations.

Lightning is far more problematic in the states as they have BIG

Careful, one more mention of lightning and earthing and you'll summon up
w_tom.

Local councils for the most part don't know what they're specifying. But
it's de rigour for all multi-dwelling sat systems to be earth bonded.

I'd be quite pleased if the one here had an LNB, and was connected. ¬(
