If you disagree with current patent granting policies (which is fine, so do I), then point your beef to the Patent Office. Tivo can't afford to play the game with one arm tied behind their back while everyone else is perfectly happy to swing with either hand. You mean you are entirely against patents, period? I'm going to throw my thoughts into this. The whole patent issue is a f*cking joke anymore and has been for years. Come on, when you can get a patent on a simple loop of plastic to do your hair, when people have been doing it for hundreds of years with a bent coat hanger or loop of any wire, it's getting a bit rediculous. And it's certainly not like Tivo invented recording TV. they really didn't invent anything. They just waited til the hardware caught up enough so it was possible to do on hard drives. If any patent should have been issued it shouldn't have been valid for more than 1 year. And IMO, they should never have been issued a patent. There idea was nothing new by a long shot. But, stupid people make stupid laws and the rest of the country pays for it forever. I don't follow this kind of crap and i really don't even know what their patent is for. Can't be recording TV can it. Maybe I'll apply for a patent doing the same thing using flash ram. Done right, I bet I could get a patent for that. I find myself in the unusual position of wanting to see Microsoft throw it's weight around and remind Tivo of the full implications of casually lobbing around patent WMDs. Wes, I'll leave the whole thread for you to see, that I didn't say TiVo was doing great. That was the original poster. I asked where Sean was. However, go to the yahoo page above, plug in a couple other little companies in the "vs." section. SUNW - Sun Microsystems EMC - EMC Corp YHOO - Yahoo You'll see the same basic curve. The curve demonstrates the tech bubble burst. Many other tech companies have the same curve. TiVo isn't doing "great". But I'd rather have a TiVo than a Replay or UnlimateTV box. I don't know how you have time to post to a.v.p.t? You are recording many hours of HDTV a day, in fact sometimes a 4 to 1 time ratio, on your MythTV box. Do you ever get a chance to watch any? Even skipping the commercials, that's a lot of seat time to watch recorded shows. |

Should soon get big bucks from Echostar for patent infringement. 2. Comcast Cable set top boxes with TiVo will soon be out, adding more $$ to TiVo's coffers. 3. Cox Cable just signed a deal like Comcast to get TiVo in their set top boxes. 4. TiVo signed a 2 year extendion with DirecTv, keeping that money rolling in. 5. Lawsuits against Scientific Atanta and Motorola for their patent infringing DVRs, could likely be settled out of court for big settlements. 6. Rumors of negotiations with Warner and Charter Cable are out there. 7. The new dual tuner SA TiVo is selling great. 8. DirecTv continues to sell the HT10-250 HD unit with TiVo. 9. The HD TiVo series 3 will be out soon also. Go look at the financial statements at hoovers.com. Tivo's debt is increasing and it still does not have a net profit. -- Youth and skill are no match for experience and treachery. 8/31/2006 12:36:49 AM |
