Default Size TV I should get?

I currently have a Toshiba 30 inch TV (standard definition) and am going to
get a HD TV in the next month or so.

My computer desk is about 6 feet from the TV, but the couches where I
would watch from are 10-12 feet away.

I don't want a TV that is too small or too big, so what size HDTV should I
get???

Think the 2.5 times rule still works. so for 11 feet, try something close
to 52 inch.

get as big as you can afford.

Not really. Even with 1080p, having too large a screen will degrade the
visual quality.

If your only going to use the set for HD (1080i or 1080p) movies, maybe 2x
would be ok (~66 inch).

Dave,

I have a 42 inch plasma. It is great. I know people like LCD better
than plasma because plasma can be harder to deal with but the picture
is unbeatable and that is why you want to get a bigger and better tv.
The HD football games are like you are there.

I sit 12'-14' from the screen and went from 27" to 57" 16:9 HD, After 2
years with it I feel it is perfect. Sales rep was right I was going to gat a
65 but he recommended it might be a little big and thinking about it now he
was right on.

In Dec of '03 we changed from a 35" Mitsubishi to a 50" Samsung DLP,
about 12 ft away. My only complaint is it isn't a 61" (or 72" !). You
won't be looking at those old analog shortcomings in the picture, just
big, bright clean detail. No more size change vs brightness, no more
convergence errors, no more ghosts, ringing, ignition noise. After you
get used to clean, it's hard to go back to what was once 'good'.

GG

I went for the 73" DLP last year. Seating was anywhere from 8 to 18 ft away
in a 18 x 16 room on the sectional (TV across the corner of the room).
Moved in Jan, an now the LR is 22 x 30....still pretty big, but I sure would
like it bigger (too much ambient light for a front projector)!

Get the biggest you can for your chosen technology, taking into account the
