There will probably be a menu option somewhere on the TV to set a programme timer. Set this for the programme you want to record. This should then work when the tv appears to be in standby. You will also need to programme your video recorder as well set AV1 or AV2 etc depending on which is connected to the tv. |

I could easily be way off beam here, but I vaguely remember a post here where somebody complained of exactly the same thing. -- MESSAGE ENDS. John Porcella |

I don't think you record from a TV with an analogue tuner when in standby either! It's time to upgrade to a recorder with it's own Freeview tuner. |

Well post with the solution, or ask questions which would help, like what make of TV. Or are you just pushing an "urban myth" because others have posted that it can be done? |

What is the brand/model of the TV? If it has a digital tuner, the electronic programme guide (EPG) may have an option to set a timer for the selected programme - check the user guide. If it does, the timer may either switch on the TV when the programme starts or else send the signal to the recorder via the SCART VCR interface, without switching the TV on. In either case, the TV needs to be left in standby. Some standalone Freeview boxes have a similar facility (usually called "timer programming"). Others have to be left on the station required, as you say. |

Or are you just pushing an "urban myth" because others have posted that it can be done? No need to get snotty, I have a Sagem HD-D50 DLP telly and the IDTV on that dumps a signal out thru AV3 even when the set is in standby (provided I set the timer). So, it's no urban myth - mind you, it's better to use my Sky + ![]() Hellraiser.............. |
