I am thinking of buying another flat panel but with high def dvd around
the corner I want a plasma in the 40" - 42" range that has 1920 x 1080 resolution and does 1080p. I can't seem to find any well known brands that meet this spec... |

I just ordered a 42" Toshiba LCD that does 1920x1080p for under $2000 delivered, maybe LCD will fit your needs? Mark |

I will be getting Play Station 3 so I want no blurring. My TV would be near a large window so contrast is important. How about a mini review? Dan |

Dan I took the 8-10 day free delivery option and it had been received by the freight company yesterday and ETA is Monday... if I can get to the cableco to switch boxes to HD by then, I'll post something then. I'll start out with the cableco box, but this LCD also has CableCARD and TV Guide OnScreen included; my cableco charges I think a 1-time $25 setup fee for the cableguy visit to program/install the card and I think around $2-$3 per month instead of $8/mo for the set-top box so may go that route soon. So far, I've only seen it once... at Best Buy this past Sunday ($2799-$200 sale.) It was the brightest TV in the aisle, maybe the entire section, and nearby or surrounding it were all types including a Samsung Plasma. I got to within about arm's distance and couldn't make out where the pixels were, whereas the plasma above it saw the screendoor effect at over 3-4ft. Response times on this Toshiba model (42HL196) are listed as 8ms or less I think. It even has a network jack to connect your PC to play jpegs & mp3s right from the TV's remote. Got mine here, scroll down for specs: http://tinyurl.com/gcqdg Also LCD's are supposedly better than plasma in the light I think I've read. Mark |

Here's the best/largest picture of the Tosiba I have found so far... the
model isn't on Toshiba's website yet either. http://im1.onecall.com/Image_Product...HL196large.jpg "Mark" wrote in message news:[email protected] wrote in message ... 1080p is essentialif your want to run a 1080p HTPC ![]() 1080i just is a fickerfest on my tv ![]() On Wed, 23 Aug 2006 15:19:47 -0400, AlanF wrote: wrote: I am thinking of buying another flat panel but with high def dvd around the corner I want a plasma in the 40" - 42" range that has 1920 x 1080 resolution and does 1080p. The only widely available plasma of any size with 1920x1080 resolution is the recently released Pioneer 50" Pro-FHD1 which lists for $10K. Panasonic is supposed to ship in September their long awaited (in the US) 65" 1080p model, the TH-65PX600, which will also list for $10K. All 42" plasmas at this time come in 3 resolutions: 854x480 ED, 1024x768 HD, and 1024x1024 interleaved ALiS panels. We might see 1366x768 42" plasmas next year - maybe. We will see 1080p 50" and 58" 1080p plasmas from Panasonic by next spring. What is your primary viewing on the 42" display? If movie or TV viewing at 8 to 10 feet, a 1366x768 display is fine. Even at 50", the difference between a 1366x768 Panasonic or 1280x768 Pioneer (6th gen resolution) and the pricey Pioneer 50" Pro-FHD1 is hard to detect beyond 6 feet. Go to a Best Buy store with a Magnolia outlet - most of them now have the Pioneer FHD1 on display - and compare the picture to nearby 50" Panasonic and Pioneer 768p plasmas. A lot of people have been doing this and deciding that the 1080p is not worth the extra money at this point. The difference in the picture is subtle, not obvious. Alan F |
