I have this TV and have a little problem with it, the left third of the
screen is darker than the rest of the screen during certain scenes. I tried
unplugging the unit as was suggested by another post I found and that didn't
do anything. It looks like something is blocking the light from getting to
the screen has anyone had anything like this happen? I'm going to call for
service but was wondering if this is a common problem or a really rare
thing?

Thanks for any advice/help, Rich

Have service come out and diagnose the set, they should have equipment to
check the operations to see if it meets manufacture's specifications.

What equiment would you suggest to diagnose this, Art? It is a DLP set,
right? Sounds to me like the best test equipment choice would be a good
understanding of how DLP works, a philips screwdriver, and a good pair of
eyes.

Most likely Rich is dead on in suggesting that something is blocking the
light...

I have a call into service and I'll let the group know what it was when it's
repaired so someone searching for a similar problem will have this as a
searchable thread and soloution maybe it's something simple that I could
have done by taking the bulb assembly out and blowing it off or something
similar?

Not likely. If it is a mechanical obstruction in the light path it will
require significant dissassemble to get to it. Possibly the light tunnel
between the lamp and color wheel. I had this occur in another brand set
once. Not a common problem that I know of, but I do little work on Samsung.

Leo: I presume the service company the gent is hiring is also authorized or
at least familiar with Samsung products, and should therefore be capable of
determining if the set will require a light engine, a colour wheel, or just
a good dust removal.
Apparently the customer does not know and that is probably why they posted
the question.
Seen many LCD units that are just totally filthy because of dust
accumulation, within what you term the light tunnel, also congealed around
the actual LCD panels. Lets find out what his selected service company has
to say when they actually do come out. Also have seen a few that critters
have homed up within the same areas while the item set unattended for a
period of time. So may variables, Eh!!

OK service came out and changed out the whole light assembly, new lamp,
color tunnel etc. He put up a test screen of what should be all white and
there were dark bars starting about mid screen and going to the left before
he changed it, I could only see them during light scenes during play back of
movies or what ever but the tech said he has seen this before but usually
its the screen. After he changed it and he put the test screen up everything
was as white as it could be no stripes etc. So this is what the 100%
warranty does for you.

So now my HDTV is back to as good as it will get until the next generation
comes out and I decide to upgrade.

Thanks for all the help diagnosing my problem, Rich
