So who besides Wes are actually running Myth TV? Or any other Linux system DVR. Someone mentioned BeyondTV. I tried a clean install on a new 300 gig drive with BeyondTV - the free trial - and it didn't work at all with 2 tuners and barely worked with one HDTV Wonder. Equally bad behavior with Sage TV. The same hardware does just fine with ATI 9.13. I'm chicken to mess with Linux so far -- will it be easy or another 2 day 'black hole' ? GG |

Assuming you have a CD burner just dl both and try one and then the other if the first one doesn't work. You don't need to know any of that using knoppmyth or mythdora. The one thing you *may* have to do after installing is to dl the firmware file and copy it to the proper dir. But don't know if you'll even need to do that for sure since I don't have an HDTV Wonder card. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |

Hey Wes....
I've asked before but have forgotten your reply so maybe you can indulge me again? Do you 'feel" that a Myth machine should be doing ONLY that function (recording TV)...... and NOT be used for other computer functions such as spreadsheets, word processing, etc? Reason I ask is this...... I'm a soon to be college student and currently don't have ANY computer at home so am in market for one and will be sued for term papers, research on Internet, etc Bottom line..... Id "like" to buy only ONE machine that could do all these things AND be a Myth machine but am wondering if it bets NOT to "mix" the two functions. |

No, I don't feel that way at all. My main mythbox is the one I'm on now. And I do everything on it, including, but not limited to, what I'm doing now. It's also is my web/ftp/file/news server along with being the MythTV server. I'm constanting using it for every other PC use I do. I don't use the frontend machines for anything but TV/music/ myth stuff, but that just because I have no need to use them for anything else. I could just as easily use one of them, except they aren't at a desk like this one is.:-) There's absolutely no reason to just use it as just a MythTV box if have other uses for it. Bottom line.....
