Default Top Up TV Is Changing / Top Up Active

Logical channel 107, Top Up Active, on freeview proudly announces that
Top-Up-TV previously known as Tits-Up-TV is changing.

But not by much I think because once the MHEG graphics have downloaded
the information appears as white text on a pale yellow background
which I find completely unreadable.

Perhaps it is my eyes that are at fault.

Has anyone managed to find out what this is all about?

You might very well think that. But you'd be wrong.

I get white text on a bright yellow background, which is absoloutely
ridiculous, virtually unreadable and certainly gives me eye strain. However
I can just make it out:

Top Up TV Anytime is the new, simple and affordable way to add a host of
extra programmes to your Freeview* channels via the new Top Up TV Anytime
Digital TV recorder - giving you more choice over what you watch and control
over when you watch it.

The Top Up TV Anytime Digital TV Recorder will be available in Autumn 2006.

I wonder what this could be? The description suggests perhaps a PVR that only
works with TUTV, unlike the one I've already got which can record more
television than I have the time or inclination to watch from more than a dozen
free channels. I can hardly contain my apathy.

Yes, I saw that. It's a photograph of a set top box, and an invitation to
register your interest in it. No details of any kind about the actual
revised TUTV channel offering or how it will work - even less than have
been reported / speculated upon elsewhere. You obviously have a very
different idea to mine about what constitutes useful information!

As a former TUTV subscriber, I did receive some info from them; but I have a
bad memory recall.
One thing which I believe that they mentioned is "an _affordable_ PVR". No
doubt tied to a fairly long subscripion.

The key point is that they are attempting to move some (perhaps most?) of
their output to a download and view later model, in order to offset the loss
of their bandwidth to Channel 5, who will use the space for new Freeview
channels. That is what the new Anytime PVR is about. That and trying to
revive a failed business plan.

Everything else is speculation at this stage.
