On More 4 last night at 9pm, loads of freezes and on two occasions the film
actually ran in reverse. Amateur film night at the village hall would have been more professional. Regards Mike. |

Regards Mike. .....Meanwhile, on ITV 3 last night, tv presentation fell to a new low when the f***ing continuity announcer started talking over the final lines of dialogue between Sally Field and Paul Newman in the feature film ABSENCE OF MALICE. Its one thing to shrink the picture down and then start their inane chatter over the end titles and music etc, but to do it while the film and dialogue is still in progress.......! A mistake I'm sure. But shoddy beyond belief. But that's ITV these days I guess :-( Simes |

I watched this as well. I missed the dialogue at end between Sally Field and Paul Newman, which is a shame as it a good film. Like you say I fell it was mistake of the continuity announcer. Continuity announcements on channels such as ITV 3 and More4 are not live (in fact these days increasing amounts of announcing on BBC 1/2/ITV1/C4/5 is also pre-recorded) The fault would have been with the automation system, or more likely the person who programmed it, that's not to say such errors are excusable, they're certainly not. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

Did you get the coloured, rippled bars across the bottom half of the screen? The more I see that film, the more errors I see. Every Heinkel attacked from the starboard side had its port engine smoke. I must say though that every crash into the sea impressed me. The spray looked very authentic. Mike -- M.J.Powell |

And I thought it was done deliberately to ruin the film for those who were trying to record it. Silly me! 8-) Keith |

Years ago, when it was being filmed, they did a lot of it out of Duxford,
and there were frequent dog-fights above our house in the eastern outskirts of Cambridge. In one shot, a WWII plane followed by a camera plane flew really low over the house. I've been looking for that shot ever since, but I reckon it must have ended up on the cutting room floor ... Rather bizarrely, I once saw it dubbed for German tv, and knowing how the actors sounded in English, I was quite shocked how inappropriately it was done. The Brits were portrayed as we always portray Nazis, harsh shouted guttural orders dubbed over the laconic British 'old boy' style. |

Particularly in the brave new world of modern broadcasting, if you have a choice of "conspiracy theory" or "cock up theory", believe in the cock up. The people running things aren't together enough to do things like this on purpose. Bob |
