.. . Did TiVo offer a Sony branded Standalone DVR? IIRC, the only Sony DVRs were DirecTV DVRs. Sony T-60 DVRs were available when lifetime service was being offered for the DirecTV DVR. Sony SVR-2000 or something like that was a standalone. The Sony's were the only TiVo powered devices that wouldn't work with the peanut remote. |

There ought to be enough for sale to make a decent comparison. A lifetimed unit is still worth some bucks. Untill analog is shut off then its a paperweight. Well that's just not true at all. They'll still be able to record analog output from almost any device (cable box, DVD player, camcorder, camera, etc.) Did TiVo offer a Sony branded Standalone DVR? Yes, the Sony SVR-2000 - I have one. All DirecTV DVRs except DirecTV HD DVR will record only from a satellite signal. Folks get confused about TiVo Series1 and Series2 DVRs wrt DirecTV DVRs. I hadn't considered the idea of it being a DirecTiVo...since I have a Sony SA, I instantly jumped to that conclusion. If this is a DirecTiVo, then the "Untill analog is shut off then its a paperweight" comment holds no water at all since this box wouldn't be using an analog input anyway. Also, it having a lifetime sub would hold no water as well since DirecTiVo boxes don't have subs, the DirecTV account has the sub so if you sell this box, the lifetime sub does not go with it (again, assuming we're now talking about DirecTiVos). -- This is my .sig |

As long as analog TVs (in use) are plentiful (and they will be for years to come), there will be some sort of an STB to convert analog to digital (DirecTV box, DiSH receiver, cable box) and the TiVo will work. Yeah, if there were IR codes for the new boxes. And the S3 doesn't even have IR support. |

Hmm, according to this page at the TiVo site, the SVR2000 is a "Series1" class machine... http://customersupport.tivo.com/userGuides.asp There is a Sony "Series2" standalone... model SVR3000. Won't standalone TiVo DVRs work with a satellite receiver or a cable box? It was my understanding that using a cable box or satellite receiver could make one immune from the mandate for digital broadcasting. The Tivo based DirecTV DVR is missing at the TiVo web site. |
